View Full Version : Forum Updates - 11/1/08
Right guys
We've done some more updates and you now have 300 games in the arcade, If there are any problems with any of them post here and we'll have a look and fix it. There is now a spell checker installed on the forum so please use it. We have also inplemented an activity montor which shows how often a person is on here as well as longevity which is how long they've been here since the club started.
As well as this we have implemented a Thanks system so if a user or member gives you good advice you can thank them for it.
We were planning on installing a helpdesk system, but th ones we found we still too buggy for us to use happily, so we will be keeping the old system for a while yet. We are still looking at possible garage solutions and will have one up and running soon.
The Links directory is now live, it's under quick links. It will still be updated yet as it's not in it's final stage, but ths won't affect anyone using it.

Activity: 45%
Longevity: 92%
Location: Stevenage

Drives : 2 Saloons (but not at once)

Other than that - looks good. Slightly worried that with the recent server issue the 300 games in the arcade will slow down the forum though - is that likely?

Are you still getting database errors? Currently on this server we are have spikes with server issues. We aim to resolve this soon, but its a lengthy process as we need to swap everything over to another server that will run more stable. but this will be in a while yet...

Im not sure how there calculated kev, alex may know as he installed it.
As for the thankyou part. Your only be able to submit a thank you within all the technical forums soon, as you dont need to thank anyone else for anything lol
As for the arcade slowing down the forum. Maybe. but again this is down to the server. Most of the games are client side and accessing and submitting scored will be down to the server to sort. Ill keep a eye on things

just like when i click on a thread it takes a while till it shows me that page never had this problem before and dont have it on other website/forums
strange, because i dont seem to have that issue. Id like to know if other users have the same issues.
one thing I've noticed (its kind of obvious) is that under the menu bar (Arcade vB Image Host Search etc) I have another bar in a grey colour that says EDIT on it. whats that all about? :)

The Thank You part under our names will be tweeked to just show the thanks once i've had chance to look at the codeing for it. Activity is calculated by visits and posts per day, longevity is how long you've been registered since the forum started in June 05.
The bar with Edit on was something Paul was working on I thought he sorted it though

Also just noticed the log out box say's undefined not are you sure, so will need to get this looked into as well

not working for me either click it and nothing happens
when I try to play a game it says "the administrator has disabled the arcade for your User Group" - is this because I'm not a paid up member or something?
Yep the arcade is a benefit for paid up members mate
As for the spell checker it should work, but will have to have a look at it which won't be till mid week as i have no net access at home till wednesday as changing broadband suppliers

Forgot i had to edit that. just updated it.
As for the logout. Will look into it. but the function works so not a massive issue...
all sounds good, only thing thats awkward is the new post link is not on the top row where the other links are (FAQ, Member Lists, User CP, etc)
No as we had to spread them across the 2 bars, just gonna take a bit of getting used to

Thanks system again is upto people if they want to use it or not, we can't make them, location info does work, for certain fields, but again people can just keep ignoring the message.
Squirrel soccer should now be fine
No-one noticed that the scores for the drag race game were scoring wrong as the slowest was getting the top of the board, changed now :lol:

as kev said how is activity etc calculated?
also whats this thanks business about?
IMO 300 games will bog the server - why not half it as 1 it will free space & 2 you will have to much to choose from with 300 :lol:

in the members list, do we really need occupation on there? couldnt we put Longevity there in stead so we can see how long people have been on here?
Activity is calculated on a posts per day type this along with visiting added in, longevity was explained on previous page.
The thanks system allows you to thank a member for helpful advice within the technical forums only though.
300 games will not be a problem as we will be moving to our own server in the near future so space or memory won't be a worry, also will give faster page load times and a lot less db errors.
Chas - Cheers mate, will bear that in mind. Got most of them figured out, i know what's wrong with the spelling one, just need the net back at home to fix it and the thanks on just need to sit down and look at the coding

All look good to me folks, never been that bothered about online games, and the thankyou system looks a bit gay...
But hey ho - keep it coming :p
Games just for a bit of light entertainment and thanks system just allows people to see who gives reliable advice, etc..
