I had an loud grating noise that happened just off centre as the car was banking slightly through a corner. This happened left or right and if i turned the steering sharper then the noise would stop. The noise went away in the wet?, turned out to be the guard at the back of the disc catching the disc itself. When i first looked at it there was plenty of clearance but with the suspension travel etc it would rub.

I had a similar problem, and after a while i realised it was the back plate behind the disc rubbing on the disc, worth checking

Noise fixed was changing the brakes and noticed the abs sensor rubbing on driveshaft had alot of corrosion between the steering knuckle and sensor bracket which pushed the sensor into the drive shaft so chisled the corroded stuff out and knocked it back into place with hammer as i couldn't change the bracket as the bolt was seized solid and didn't wanna brake it

thanks for your help guys im glad i managed to sort it

Well done, thats a nice find for you, its great when you find a nice easy fix for something. If you find that you have to change your ABS sensor soon because it's been damaged, i found that one from a Vectra in the scrapyard works fine.

I've had trouble with that bracket rusting and going out of line too. Mine used to flick the TC light on when i turned and was moving slowly at the same time. My ABS sensor eventually broke but when i looked at it the ABS ring, think it's called the reluctor ring?, had been worn away as the bracket was out of line and the sensor was catching. When i fitted the new sensor i had to add a couple of washers to space the sensor away from the ABS ring. I didn't chance bending the bracket back into place as i feared it may snap but it left the sensor half looking over the ABS ring and half looking over the hub. I was surprised to find it all works fine.

Keep an eye out that that ABS ring doesn't break and you get a gap appear in it. If it does the ABS gets fooled into thinking your skidding whilst your braking and kicks in. Even at low speed, low braking and dry road the pedal starts to grind under your foot.
