fitting a proper one would need a whole new roof skin welding one, along with pillar drains and new headlining. you can get aftermarket tilt things, but you'll regret it first rain when both front seats are soaked.

    just open your windows wider

Nah, I wanted a proper electric sunroof. But for that I guess I'd have to buy another mk3

An alternative to a sunroof would be rear electric windows, get all 4 windows down to get lots of air :p

Dont like sun roofs, I never have mine open in fear that the muck will come out of the holes its filling to stop water coming in... they always try to leak. Prefer a solid shells, they flex less too?

My sunroof has never been an issue, its goos to have open on tilt, even at 70 its nothing like as noisy as having a window open

Makes no difference to rigidity...makes plenty in weight you're saving tho having a none sunroof shell

I know they weigh a lot, really cant stand them but I'm not welding my roof up to remove it.

Had a Mk3 with a factory sunroof and no probs at all in the 13 years I had it - brilliant
Also had two other cars with after-market sunroofs fitted and no problems with those either i it depends how much you're prepared to pay but more importantly who you get it fitted by.

I was planning on doing it myself, but it seems it's more effort than it's worth
