    Astravan Epic!

Also I’d drained the tank and swapped the fuel filter to get rid of the 8 year old fuel. put a gallon of fresh fuel in and some cleaner additive That got it through the test, but it must have sucked some nasty stuff up as it laid down a big smoke screen for a minute on the way home, then...

    Astravan Epic!

Fitted a Momo wheel instead of the original (that was sticky :( ) sorted suspension, fronts with some spare bilsten dampers and lowering springs I’d tried on the red van and swapped. Rears I’ve only swapped springs for now, but have replacement dampers to fit later Sorted some tyres for the...

    Astravan Epic!

Well the white van got welded swapped the steering rack to a manual one, swapped brakes to the old ones off of the red van. fitted flywheel and clutch from my old low blow.. because the red low blow had the potted flywheel and the white one was flat

Converting to a 256mm front disc

Carriers are certainly different, which is how they’d fit a bigger disc. I thought the callipers are too…. I just bought a set and rebuilt in advance of swapping. but as said GSi brakes will bolt onto your struts. Attached a couple of photos

So, plans…. me and my lad built a UVA fugitive over the last 6 years. It’s got a bored and stroked aircooled motor and we took it drag racing Off the back of that Toms about to turn 16, so we’ve got him a licence and he’s going to race a lupo in VW sportman in the VWDRC So plans for the van...

    Astravan Epic!

Van has been performing well, I swapped the lower ball joints that made it quieter and made the steering so much lighter! It was an advisory in October, but I was a bit miffed as they were new moog arms fitted 18months earlier, so I can say they lasted 2 years now gave it another oil service...

    Astravan Epic!

Not done too much, van desperately needs a clean but was too busy running up to Xmas. today did a job for customer with a 2 poster, so fixed a sheared bolt on alternator bracket But as that had a different sheared bolt, some drilling and heat persuaded the snapped bolt out and reused the...

How do I tackle this rust problem..I'm no welder either.

Mines not perfect, it’s a bit of a mess where the filler aperture meets the inner panel, access is a pain there unless you cut a lot more outer panel away which I didnt want to do I had a welder, but hadn’t ever attempted bodywork repairs before. I’m glad I had a go, but I think if I had...

How do I tackle this rust problem..I'm no welder either.

Think you’ll struggle without the use of a welder. you really need to cut a hole in the outer skin, fix the inner (which realistically would mean getting an inner wing repair panel as the shape is pretty complicated) fixing that and then welding the outer, which again looks like you may be...

    Astravan Epic!

Passed the MOT had advisories for the lower ball joints :( they are only 25000 old! But otherwise all good, got complimented on the brakes being really good. Went through emissions with no issues, and last year I had to make sacrifices to the gods of mots with the low blow :) I did have a...

    Swap 1.7d to 1.7td

I think that’s a good plan, there were quite a few little bits that are different and they will all be on the donor, and can be expensive to buy seperately good luck

    Swap 1.7d to 1.7td

Hi, I swapped from x17dtl (which is the turbo diesel version of the GM engine) to the Isuzu unit in my van. I got a whole car as donor there is a different engine mount, which you’ll need to take off of donor or fabricate. the Vauxhall engine loom unplugged on a green multiplug down near...

    Astravan Epic!

Not updated for a bit. swapped the front brakes to the GSi ones Gave it a service at the same time, as it’s driven 5000 miles since the engine swap. Dropped the sump and checked the pickup as it’s still got a 3sec oil light was very clean and no issues so happy it’s just the thing that the...

    22mm master cylinder

Meant to reply to this. went away for few days and van sat, when I used it again it was fixed! So either there was still air in the system and it worked it’s way out. Or possibly I needed a day or two off to notice the difference in the pedal (?)

    Astravan Epic!

Thanks :) I think it looks good when parked up with builders transits and relays etc, but wasn’t sure it would make the grade when parked in a field of retros. But it got quite a few nice comments

    22mm master cylinder

No abs, I thought it was air at first so bled it all again and the brakes are there but just at the end of stroke, if I pump them they stay at the same point (if that makes sense) which made me think it wasn’t air but maybe worth bleeding it again (?)

    22mm master cylinder

I’ve swapped GSi brakes onto my van and have a long pedal, so am looking for a 22.2mm master cylinder. I’ve not got abs, so I need one from a mk2 gte I think, but the only ones I’ve seen are 20.64mm, the same as mine. I think I have a delco 3492467 on mine, so either need a 4 port one to fit...
