1998 Astra MK3 1.6i LS 45,000 Almost a Barn Find (but was never lost)

This car until recently has not seen daylight or been seen by anyone since 2003 when unfortunately the owner died since then his widow has not been well enough to do anything with the car

We are garage lockup neighbours and I discovered the car after the garage door was damaged, to cut a long story short I offered to help my neighbour to repair the garage door and we got talking about the car she thought it would be a heap of rust by now and would only be fit for scrapping and she was shocked when I told her that it is actually in fantastic condition and too good to scrap and all it need was a good clean, service and a few bits and pieces.

The car is a 1998 Vauxhall Astra 1.6i LS with only 45,000 miles, one registered owner and is currently SORNED located in Aberdeen.

I have taken over 50 detailed pictures from all angles showing the fantastic condition this car is in which makes it extremely rare today because there are not many this age in this great original condition available there are only a few rust spots which can be seen on the tail gate (see photos) which should be easily remedied by any capable DIY mechanic.

Because it has been unused for so long, it will probably require some work for the MoT.

If you got it MoT'd, even with a fail sheet showing the work it needs, you should be able to sell it easier.

I agree adding a MOT would be good but it’s not my car the lady wanted to keep the cost down to a minimum but I can always speak to her again about putting a MOT on it and just add the cost on to the price

I have had the car running now for a few hours no problems starts every time

No ROT underneath the body sills etc.

There is surface rust on the suspension unit’s which a coat of Kurust and Hammertie will cure this

All Brakes pipe look clean

The Brake discs cleaned up perfect

All rubbers look good I see no leaks

I replaced the middle and rear exhaust silencers

All electrics, light, horn etc. work
