Hi All ive a fault code 19 on the ABS. So far ive stripped down the ABS unit checking all powers and grounds, relays etc. Could anyone give me any pointers on how to confirm what the problem is. Im a novice electrician at best but i have noticed that whilst disconnected from the system, ive got continuity across the + and - connections on the ABS pump which doesn't feel normal. Any help would be gratefully received.

19 is System Relay but no idea what this is referring too. All ABS codes are listed here.
Thanks for reply. Had half hour on this today, the pump runs if you bridge the relay connections, its as if the ECU isnt powering the relays during the self-test. Not sure how the relay test work during the self-test as i dont recall hearing the pump running during the self-test. I suspect the ABS ECU is at fault or supplies into that ECU

If you post a pic of your ABS ECU I might have a spare in my shed stash or someone else might be able to help.
Excellent, i will post a picture asap. The ECU itself has the part number 0273 004 029 on it. Its the ECU that incorporates TC. There is a GSi breaking on eBay at the moment but one of the failures when it was last presented for an Mot was that the ABS light didn’t illuminate. Any help would be ace, thanks.

I had another look at this today, there is a new additional code; this being brake pedal switch. the signal from the brake pedal switch is however getting to the ecu. is this a further indication that the abs ecu is faulty?

can i re-kindle this one please, would anyone have any ideas? ive still got immediate codes for brake pedal switch and control relays. brake pedal switch signal arrives at the abs connector as expected when you press the brake pedal. wheel sensors are measuring correctly at the abs connector too.

Hi MarkGSi , did u get anywhere with this one?

I've got the same fault code!

Hi Dave, did you get any further with your car?

Hi mate, yea got there in the end! when you take lid off the ABS pump there is 2 relays, one for pump and one for solenoids. I gave the solinoid relay a hard time and it started working again! Fixed the issue, however it faulted again soon after and the relays cannot be replaced as they are attached to the board.

So i've got myself a second hand pump to fit over winter

ironically, the solenoid fault has cleared and not come back now, but when I was ******* around, i broke one of the legs off the pump relay so it has a light on, but for that instead

depends what your checking, but the + and - of the coil of the relay will have continuity, thats normal

I will take another look at this over the weekend. My ABS unit must be an earlier version as you can unplug the relays from the board. I bench tested mine and they worked ok. im struggling to find a replacement ECU to try. Thanks for your reply.

Is yours ABS and traction control? Although the 2 are separate, it looks like from the diagram that might be the difference and their are different numbers on EPC. I could see you could get the relays, that's why I tried to remove it and broke it!

Have you asked Hayden Reece? He has loads of stuff. I can ask him if I have the part number?

Yes i have ABS and T/C.

My wife has been in touch with Hayden Reece on facebook as im after a chassis rail section. I will ask about the ABS.

Thanks
