Ok the basics, I rent a space in a shed for 70 euro per month all above board paying the taxes etc. Now my landlord said when i took the space that i can work on my car anytime and do anything as other people would be doing it too. But the guy across from me has a few yanky cars which he doesn't cover!!!

I stated the fact that i will be doing all kinds of repairs in that space

So anyway i have been doing a bit of grinding and welding and he has now complained about the dust laying on his cars! Ok fair enough i can see a little bit of his point, but he could also cover them easily.

Now my landlord being a nice guy has offered me another shed to my own till september, and then move back into the garage but NO welding and NO Grinding. I don't plan on doing too much grinding and welding in the future but that doesn't mean none either!

Should i stick to my guns and say we had deal that i could do whatever and whenever i wanted.

Or: say i need to do some welding in the future and do the prep work outside. I don't think welding really causes much dust.

Or: Live with it and accept his terms.

What do you guys think!

Your in a public area and its up to the third party to protect his cars. Simples. All you can do is to try and prevent the dust from going anywhere which is impossible.
Its like telling the birds to stop plopping on your car. You cant all you can do is try and prevent it.
Personally i would just carry on what your doing and make a suggestion that a car cover would solve the situation and I also bet that the third party welds his yanks cars to.

sounds like the landlord is being reasonable, if you kick up a fuss he may boot you out, imo do any messy work outside (grinding is deffo an out side job imo) and try to negotiate the welding as if your using gas it can be a pain to weld out side if its breezy.

Yeah i mean the guy is nice enough and reasonable, i mean he is restoring cars in his own shed so he is understandable towards what i am doing! As for throwing me out i have a contract signed officially so i don't see that a concern.

I have no problem grinding outside but i think he might restrict that to times (no problem) due to noise.

I can't see the problem to welding as there is no dust from that!

The guy that is next to me hasn't started yet but he is planning to weld and grind also as he has been moving in the stuff already. So i wonder what the deal was with him when he rented the space.

yeah id check with him what he was told too. if you were told that you can do that stuff then id say you can keep doing it

I think i need to balance the problem, there is no point me having a welder, engine crane etc if i can't do anything.

I personally think that he should find a solution to the problem as he made the promises of 'you can do whatever till whatever time'

I think i am being reasonable moving till september as now i have to put the car back together just to move it and move all my tools as well.

But i fear when i have moved till september and re move back in he will want to change the terms and conditions??

he will, thats why he's doing it. first thing to check will be withthis new guy who's moving the same kit in

If you plan on grinding, could you not stick a sheet or something over the guys car if he won't? I can see where he is coming from, no point in paying to keep the car covered and clean to get mucked up inside, but if you had an agreement he should stick to it. You should ask the other people if they have been told the same, cos it can't be a rule for one and another for everyone else.
