Hi, when i took my wheels off my old car on the front, the shoulder wear was CRAZY. Guessing this is from lowering it and the camber being out. Its actually put so much wear on one side that the tyre wall has started to split. Scary.

Needless to say they are on the back now.

Anyone else have this problem and is there a way to stop it when i drop my front end again? Dont want to get through a set of tyres every few months.

Thanks for suggestions.

It was a 35mm drop. Nothing major, which is why i was surprised. Everything else was new, top mount and bearings, wishbone and all ball joints. Should it be that bad?

well tbh, a lot of what i do is rag it around uneven rappy road surfaces and do a lot fo braking because the roads round here are rubbish. probably would have got better mileage if it were on the motorway. still it costs me 85 for two new tyres and they are pretty good so i dont mind really

I have been looking at my car and it gains a lot of camber for only being lowered a bit.
The only real answer is to correct the camber or adjust the toe a bit to compensate.
I'm wondering if I might be better getting stiffer front springs but keeping the ride height about the same.

How do you adjust the camber on a mk3? Know you can on a mk4.

Tracking was done after lowered.

Dont think you can on mk3 had my tracking done yesterday and it has been lowered (not sure how much, but front is well low) camber reading was -1.40 so lowering it has given it alot of negative camber.

Not good. Hmm, going to need to fork out for new tyres soon. But i dont want the new ones to go the same way.

When i had my MOT the bolt was cross threaded and not clamping the tie rod end down properly, could this cause uneven wear? It didnt cause any other damage and it didnt move, it just wasnt tight enough apparently.

As said the camber can't be adjusted. You could get new strut top mounts and instead of putting more camber on you could reduce it.
Having said that even 1.4 degrees isn't a huge amount of camber so perhaps its a combination of that and the toe setting being near or outside the limits.

CAMBER DOES NOT CAUSE TYRE WEAR AT THE INSIDE EDGES.
Why would it, the whole width of the tyre is cambered, it is the tracking causing it, even more so due to bump steer when lowered giving a greater angle than previously.

I will see how i get on with my new one then. Hopefully no more tyre wear. Dont get why it was so worn if tracking causes it, because i had the tracking done twice... :(
