It's not voltage you need to worry about, it's current. You be better off wiring up to a laptopn power supply.

how handy i just so happen to have one 15v tho... still alternator voltage cant be far off that

wouldn't be difficult to fit a resistor to bring it to the appropriate current

alternater voltage is around 14.4v i believe
