car wrote off ....whats a good value?

some old dithering ass decided it would be a good idea to drive into my front wing and bend my bottom arm yesterday , inturn writing off my car......

i am just waiting for the valuation guy to ring me with a price and was wondering what sort of price should i accept?

its a mk3 in dimond black metalic, with gsi bumpers lowered all round on 17's in immaculate condition(full paint in the last few years)(new windscreen 3 days ago) all head just done new timing kit , new clutch, just gone through test without advisorys

i am buying it back but was wondering what sort of figures i should be looking at?

hopefully im going to fix it but it all depends on what it looks like on the jig..... if its bad i may try and source another mk3 in black and swapbits over or may break depending on intrest on parts..

When mine was smashed in to similar sort of story really and similar sort of crash damage the insurance company wrote it off class a and gave me £660 .. that was shocking for a 94 GSI i had all my mods declared too !!

they said they make up some of the value from cars for sale on the net, so i have been finding the dearest 5 door sports on the net i found a couple with similar mods going for 1600 so there getting them e-mailed to them lol might even the scores a little

You have to argue your corner, take pics of all mods, write a list out of all mods, and find cars of a similar spec to yours for sale.

Get that over to them and make it clear your not stupid and wont accept a silly offer

true they have to find a car as close to or of the same spec and get a value from that, they will also check the price in the glasses value book

get on a few car sites and print some proof of to give to them if they dont offer a good enough price they will soon change there offer

right quick update....the valuation bloke rang me earlier and firstly commented about how much of a nice example my car was and that apart from slight wear on the drivers seat it is near 100% mint. He then however insulted my intelligance by sayin i could have the car back for free(cat c) along with a cheque for 450 quid......
This rattled my cage a little and asked him where he plucked this annoyingly small figure from to which he replied that he had only looked in the glasses guide for a rough price.
After a bit of discussion he has agreed that the valuation was some what on the low side and has agreed to spend some time trawling the internet to find cars of similar condition up for sale and will get back to me with another valuation tomorrow....

If your not happy with his second valuation then do some looking yourself, and send in the print outs of similar cars for sale, also copy any reciepts etc of recent work carried out etc, as this will raise the value slightly.

Along with a full spec sheet (so long as all your mods are declared).

This is what i did, and my offer pretty much doubled

well....me being impatient as i am , decided to ring the blokes mobile number(at half 9 this morning) to see if he had come up with another figure, and he hasnt had time to look yet but will be doing TODAY and is going o get back to me ...... i have taken note of a few on ebay classified's and in the trader rangeing from 700 to 1200 so if all else fails i can present him with these..

after much ebate and pestering by me the valuator has agreed to pay me 700 and give me my car back if i promise to stop ringing him......lol....just provers persistance pays off .
i have just got a mk2 (sorry) which my beloved c20xe engine will be living in very shortly lol.
ill still be on here tho
