I refuse to use credit cards

Credit cards aren't bad tbh. As long as you use them properly!

I have a goldfish card from years ago that offers me cashback on all my purchases. So I put my purchases on that, while the equivalent money is in my 8.5% fixed savings acct...then pay it off (minus the cashback) at the end of the month. Good way of building a good credit rating, and earning a bit back on purchases.

i would never have credit card either creating a small debt for yourself

as tim said use it correct + it works in your favour

true but i prefer to spend what i have coming in wages etc

my credit rating got destroyed thanks to my layabout good for nothing toss bag ex fiance in 2005-06 (long story, wont bore you with it).

Basically, we split, made £90k on the house, which when divvied up left us with about £45k each.

Then I had £35k worth of debt to pay back - around £20k of which was on credit cards. I had defaulted on all of them, was struggling to pay them, the mortgage, put food on the table, petrol in the Cav...

But, by being careful, I've managed to rebuild my credit history, I now have a proper bank account again (with Barclays, told HSBC to shove it) and in Octobler I tentatively applied for a 0% Barclaycard Platinum. To my shock (but delight), I was accepted and got one with a £2k limit, which is fine, and I cant go silly on it.

My plan is, when the 0% offer ends, is to then apply for another one, transfer the balance, then cut up the Barclaycard. Too many people fall into the balance transfer trap and dont destroy the cards that were paid off, then when the new one is maxed, they start spending on the empty one again - been there, done that!!

Always check out websites like 'moneysaving expert' (Martin Lewis who appears on R2's Jeremy Vine show some weeks), for the best deals on loans, overdrafts, bank accounts, savings and credit cards.

Cheers,

You would...thats the whole point. NVM.

thats the way to do it :)

What is the best solution for one person, might not be for someone else!

spot on :)

 id never get one of them, as much as i'd love to! its just not even worth me looking. 20k student debt already, only earn £7k a year  ill shoot myself in the foot if they gave me one of them!!

some people will be happy to have credit card if they can control there spendings.but my point is am not one of them id rather just spend the money we earn and not have to worry about credit cards bills or have to worry about the fact ive got to repay it sometime.
