Dave b's VXR Powered Gsi Diary

but more interesting than that, did some car stuff, have been driving it around a bit, loving it of course. have this hurrendos knocking noise from the front i cant find :( have double and triple checked everything but can't find it, top mounts seem to be fine, but wondering if it is the bearing, although it doesn't seem to have any excess play or anything which is annoying. i'll keep looking. used it as an excuse to adjust my steering, pulls straight but wheel is left hand down, so adjusted half a turn, and now its right hand down  crapper. ill do that again when i put the wheels back on. straightened up the track rod end too, was leaning forward which was weird

so cleaned the arches and callipers up

gave it a nice clean

and another advert for carbon collective platinum wheels alloy wheel protector again!

a year and...

with just soap and sponge, 95% clean! just a few spot to sort so i have ordered some iron x alloy wheel cleaner as rich (savage16v) says it works brilliantly for little black bits, so gonna give that a go!

been having a little of trouble with hot idle being quiet lean aswell, still doing little adjustment here and there for my idle, learning alot which is good, but changed the hot fuelling to richen her up a bit, was running 15-18 afr unstable idle, brought the idle to 13-14, which is a little rich for idle, but makes it alot more stable and not really gonna effect anything so loads better

also made little ride height adjustment, brought the back up 10mm, not really any picture of before, but make it sit more like a hatch back, decided the front needs to come down now thou lol

Love it dave I cant wait to get cracking on mine. I would love to drive your car I seriously think its going to be as balanced as you can get a mk3 set up.

cheers Kev, I love the car to bits and will defiantly never sell it!!! I'm too busy chasing perfection all the time with it, and it will never be perfect so that's all good lol

need to do the rear main again but it's not desperate so gonna leave that till after the show season, I don't think I'm gonna do any track days in it this year thou now I have the Clio, allows me to keep the Astra mint and fast road focused, and I can take my 'need' for a track slag out on the Clio!

Regards idle,

Have you got your wideband talking to your ecu? if so you can have omex trim for fuel with lambda, means it will adjust to a max of whatever +/- percentage you wish to limit to so you should be able to get what ever reading you want pretty much providing the current values isn't a massive % out at idle.

I set mine up so below a certain rpm the ecu would fuel trim, above that it was down to the map.

Nice work Dave, Astra's looking mint in the pics. Love the workshop idea. Hopefully get mine started this year.

well I think I, like alot of people, are leaving pvs prep untill the last second :hmmm:, so the car need a good clean and wax, so told the missis I'm busy every night next week after work.

but my drivers A pillar has some serious lacquer peel now and it looks terrible :( so I'm gonna go balls deep and this week spray my A pillar!!!
I've done paint before, my engine etc and all has gone well, this is a repair thou so will take some more thought and care!
wish me luck everyone! :help::bounce:

couple of pictures of the lacquer peel on the a pillar, pulled screen trim out for better access, gonna attack this tues or weds i reckon, i wonder if i light rub down and just spray some lacquer over the top will do, i also read up on when u do the final layer, add more thinners so it blends better. ill see hey!

pvs prep has started :)

I think you'll get away with a rub down and a repaint. 2k clear?

yea got some 2k lacquer and hardner, read up lots on line, gonna do the feather edge with folded back masking tape aswell, I'll wet flat after and give it a polish. I am a bit scared

I went to town wet flatting my 2k clear. Don't be shy, it's very hard and you can feel it through the paper once it's down to the same level as the surrounding paint. The texture changes.

Just normal water and I started at about 600 and worked my way up to 1200 then mopped it.
