man this thread has been rejected for a fair while, and so has the car :( sitting under a cover ready for some loving. The megane is taking all of my spare time at the mo, but the excitement about billing got me excite about my astra again! so i bought some door sills for it, ready to attack the rust!

yay! can't wait to get stuck into this, got a fair amount to get done!

quality of them ok?

Where did you get them from if you don't mind me asking? Zinc coated?

Nah definitely not zinc coated, just seem like pressed plain metal and that's it, shape looks good thou, and the metal is nice and thick which I like. With stuff like this it's always going to be cut to shape, but I think I'm gonna treat the metal on the inside prior to fitment, aswell as the parts in the car. Try and get rid of as much rust as possible!

Cant just be bear metal though, it would rust just to look at it? Is it a silver paint then? ...Good to hear there's decent thickness to it, some of the repair panels (and wings) I've seen before have been paper thin.... Should be able to hide anywhere you weld it so shouldn't actually be too bad a job thinking about it (seems behind seal and you've also got side skirts). Schultz gets my vote for the underside, can hide a lot and looks OE.

Anyway, be interesting to see how you get on with it and good luck!

Yea I did think they can't be bare metal, but they don't look galvanized, they haven't got that colour to them.
If I'm honest they look more their aluminium haha. But they obviously aren't. I'll have a look on their website

I was having a bit of a think where to join them, I'm not to sure, depends what I find I suppose when I start cutting!

Time to get this diary kicked started again!!

So about a month ago i started getting a bit paranoid.... that i would kinda end up falling out of love with the astra, no so much the car, or the idea of the config of the car, all of that i love, its more the list of stuff that needs doing and the years of just raggin the arse of the car takes its toll! the shell has done nearly 200k! Its need a bit of a bareshell i think, but of course this winter has been taken up by the megane respray.... But the megane build has given me a new found confidence and drive working on cars, especially full strip downs and paint jobs! So what needed to be done was get it out of hiding!

Booked and MOT, took the dust sheet off, and started her over!

Not been started in a fair while so cranked it for 30secs with no fuel, then started her up, started on the button and idled like a dream!....

for about 10 seconds  bloody thing! so checked the coil pack and HT leads, they were cracking away fine so their all good. So wipped the plugs out, cylinder 4 soaking wet! Bugger, checked the plug over....

how does the porcelin crack being parked up for a year , wtf!! lucky all was not lost as i have my spare plugs, they are 6 heat rating not 7, so slightly warmer running, but no issue for a drive to the mot station, stuck the plug in and she was purring like a kitten! Love the fact this car starts on the button every time, even with a ****** plug lol

so the next day i took her for an mot...

back at the old job to see my mate, and a little while later she passed without a single advisory   ..... funny hey!:bounce:

then I boosted off home! The drive home was awesome, i didn't even give it that much, but i literally fell in love with the car all over again, running base boost, half throttle, only revving to 5k and gets to 100mph in no time, thing is crazy, makes all sorts of epic noises, pops, bang, burbles, spins the wheels with a tickle of the throttle. I was pretty sure this was how i would feel driving it again, but i arrived home with a massive smile on my face, greeted by the missis saying ' i heard you from miles away! cor i love the smell of your car'

shes back!! Given me a new lease on life to enjoy driving her this summer, then give her some serious loving over the winter!

So time to spend some money!...

yea i see that, i remember phil off the club got one and regretted it a bit, he said it was effin massive and weighed a ton!

Mine also puts a smile on my face, all be it this time only for 3 days while it was running..... I really wish I didn't keep breaking mine :( (well, I guess it wasn't really my fault this time but it's still broke lol) I should be enjoying it in the sun!

How come you're only running base boost?

Probably because ~300bhp is still ample

My cars got plenty of BHP too! ....when its working  lol.

I was actually going to fit a "sports button" on mine so with the flick of a switch could run full boost or just actuator pressure.... then I decided nah.

That's basically how mine works, just a switch that cuts power to the boost controller to run wastegate pressure :)
