engine change

you will need to go to a garage and get an engineers report and send that off with the logbook, you fill in the parts you need to fill in.

the engineers report is just to say the engine is fitted correctly and sound

Rubbish you don't need any engineers report, some insurers may insist on it, but nothing to do with DVLA, but fill in changes under engine section to new CC, then send off, that's it.
Don't forget to inform your insurer, not doing so voids it.

In the process of doing this for Claire's, we filled out the V5 sent it off and DVLa sent it back with a letter asking for proof of engine number and cc, they gave us a list of acceptable things, will post them when I'm home from work

i need to know this too as im hoping to xe mine as soon as i can and knowing what i need to get to re-register it would be very helpful :thumb:

You DONT need an engineers report.I dident have a receipt as id had the engine ages.Got the letter back from the dvla so took the car up to the garage at top of my street. He checked the engine number over and wrote a letter on headed paper saying he`d witnessed the new engine numbers and said what the cc was.Sent that off and got the v5 back afew days later.

To save Alex a job, this is what the letter says word for word (we are changing the engine number and engine size):

"To update our records with the change of vehicle details, you must provide evidence from the list below (choose one).

  • A receipt of purchase on headed paper, from a garage, confirming the engine number, engine size (cc) and the fuel type for the reconditioned or replacement engine, if one has been fitted.

  • An inspection report from an organisation such as the AA or RAC.

  • An inspection report provided for insurance purposes.

  • Written confirmation from the manufacturer showing the engine number and size.

If your existing engine has been converted or the change took place before you bought the vehicle we will accept:
  • written confirmation on headed paper from the garage that carried out the conversion;

or

  • written confirmation of the change on headed paper from an independant garage."

The last one I did, didn't even have an engine number, this had been ground off, I took the precaution of asking me mate, a traffic cop to come witness the no engine number, which I hadn't even noticed before having fully rebuilt the engine(2.8 V6 ford), V5 came back with "ident unclear" on V5.
When me dad re reg his 4L V8 4i from old sd1 reg with new engine number of v8, again simply sent off the V5, maybe it has changed recently ?
Personally I wouldn't send them a engineers report, they either change it or not as they wish, so long as you have tried you're covered imo, hell some peeps don't even have V5's, they would be better concentrating on not letting 1.2 million V5's go walkabout!!

Strong words but I agree.

They changed regulations earlier this year. BOO :( They are apparently trying to cut down on DIY engine swaps.

Read it in a mag while i was waiting for my exhaust to be fitted.
