FAO HID & Trip Computor Owners

Ok fitted my HIDs tonight but as they only connect in 1 headlight socket and the wire runs across the car the check computer says headlight out as the drivers side bulb holder has no bulb in it

this happened to anyone else? and how did you solve it?

i was thinking stick a relay in the empty one but i havent a clue what size relay

yeh ive done it you have to cut a wire in the back of the mfd ask lee69 he was the one who told me about it i think cant think what colour it was

yeh i thought that but i left quite abit of wire on the back of the mfd so i could solder it back up if needs be, i looked it for about 30mins trying to figure out away just so i didnt have to cut it because i dont like cutting the original loom but the warning message pi$$es me off

Mine does a few wierd things with HID's fitted...

Headlight warning, brake pad warning and puts my abs light on

Fit a resistor to the empty socket would be the easiest way i'd have though. Similar to what you need to do if you fit LED bulbs

Sure does but am not cutting wires... lol infact am slowly making my way round the car sorting out all the cut wires for the trip computer warnings. (washer fluid, water etc).

BTW my hids are hi/lo so all connected up and still does it!!!

You need to find out what resistance a regular bulb is and you'll need one that matches that

how do i measure the resistance then?

You can measure the resistance using a voltmeter that can measure resistance

i know that bit and use OHMS but where do i put it on the car to get the reading to get the correct resistor / relay?

You need to measure a standard bulb not the connector, as that's what you need to imitate

1 side of the MM to the bulb - other to another side of the bulb = resistance?

Resistance = Resistor / Relay needed

then job done?

iirc then yes, been a while since i've done proper electronics, will be doing it to mine when i eventually get HID's fitted
