Hi folks, A lot of people asking "what gearbox do I have?"
Well, to help a bit , here is my gearbox bible to throw a little light on the subject.
Firstly, the gearbox type is stamped into the gearbox near the gear stick linkage. This is a gearbox from the rear.
To find your code, you need to look down here :
So, once you found your code, what do you have ?
Well, here are the available gearboxes, and the Opels/Vauxhall engines they were fitted to.
Please note, there are so many types that I have only listed Astra Mk3 combinations
There are also 2 main variants to each box type. WR and CR
CR is the "short" box, meaning, the gears are closer together allowing for better acceleration through the gears
WR is a so called "economy" box, with the gears slightly further apart, and a stretched top gear. This means it is not as quick off the mark as the CR brother, but at top speeds the engine revs much lower, hence - economy.
