gearbox....will it fit?

right guys just bought a red top which has come with an f20 gearbox. just wondering if the gearbox off my x20xev will fit onto the c20xe or not?

reason being is that the f20 gearbox is electric and the one on my x20xev is mechanical so dont want to go changing my clocks around and creating more work for myself.

any help appreciated,

arnt the x20xev f18 or f20 so it should fit although i may be wrong

anything above F16 (big block) will maechanically fit. There are other restrictions like the F28, but F18 will fit, F20 will fit.

Im being a bit thick here, but whats the difference? I know 1s electronic speedo drive and other mechanical, but is it that 1s 6speed and the other is 5? I got me a Vectra with an X20XEV in it and was wondering if there would be an advantage over the 2 gearboxes?

You sure the F20 is electric?
Probably jsut the GTE speedo sender screwed in where the speedo cable would go normally.

Pretty sure the F18+ had replaced the F20 on MK3 GSIs when the Electronic clocks came in.

had a look earlier and rang the guy i had it off and the box was used with a digi dash so the electronic sender unit is pluged in where the speedo cable goes so i can use it. which would you guys think would be better? the f20 or the f18? not sure what to do now

If if were me i would use the f20, the f18 a renowned for exploding diffs..

Same here.The only differance was the GTE's with the transducer for the digi dash which can be replaced with a standard cable driven mech.

well in that case i may keep the f20. it would really annoy me if i fitted the engine and then the box went a blew on me. though kve never had any probs with the f18 fitted to mine now, its always been sweet.

F20s you can change the clutch on flat flywheel in car, F18 you can't

I have a F18 on the C18XEL atm, and had a F16 on the C18XE, both will fit the C20XE aswell.

I dunno what gearbox to use on the C18XE when i rebuild it,

Any advice would be great, i have read the F16CR make them pretty rapid acceleration wise, but top speed is 125mph max, thus meaning motorway driving tends to use more fuel as your revving higher?

The F16 i had on the C18XE was good, and quite quick acceleration, and still went off the clock (just)

Whats difference would i find using the F18 or F20 on the C18XE once it rebuilt?

C18s are quite low powered so definately a close ratio.
F16 and F20 you can change clutch in car (if you fit flat flywheel)

F18s are 10 a penny.

The F18CR and F20 ratios are different but the final drive it too, making the total drive ratio pretty much identical.

F18s have more teeth on so quieter, but smaller teeth also means weaker.
