Yes, but the car will sit slightly higher than if would if it was a GSi as the 1.6 doesn’t have the extra weight of a 1.8 or 2.0ltr

ah right, so on a 30 - 35mm drop there wouldnt really be a lot of difference?

1.6 16v converted to 8v for some reason.

I tried MK4 Astra GSI springs on my 1.8 smallblock MK4.

Front sat 5-10mm higher than the standard CDX 1.8 springs.

Rears did lower 10-15mm though.

ok cheers folks, wanted at least the 30mm drop, but prefer a bit lower.

I put std eibach GSI springs and shocks all round on me 1.4 astra(8V) auto, dropped at least 3", seems just right, I'll take a piccie if you want, don't know whow to host but you can if I email it to you.

3"!?

thats a 75mm drop!!!!

I put -30mm GSI springs on and it sat too high!!

I don't know if the mk1 and 2 merit are different spring wise, mine is mk1, they were defo vaux springs that came off, and it defo sat a lot lower minimum 2" but I think esp at front nearer 3", must admit I didn't measure though.
Prior to doing the springs at the rear I could put my hand in the gap vertically, you know resting the edge of my hand so my little fingers lowest with thumb uppermost laid across the tyre, I can't even see the top of the tyre now, let alone get my hand in there, even crouched down at side of the car I cannot see the top of the rear tyres.
Can email you a piccie if you like, just can't say what springs were on to start with, but was aone owner car with stack loads of service receipts all from a vaux garage in plymouth called Brammell Allens.

Thats confusing!! Did it have the same amount of coils?? I thought that the GSI springs were only like -10mm?? on a big block anywho, on a small block the rates should mean that it would sit at the same hight??

Without having been cut the springs I cant see it sitting 75mm lower!! Im not disputing you at all tabetha, you know your stuff, all im saying is that GSI springs shouldn't lower a car 3 inches!!

It defo was at least 2 1/2", looks nearer 3", I didn't bother to note the coils amount, but did find the gsi, or rather what I was told were gsi std springs were around 4" lower when stood side by side with the ones that came off.
As to what springs were on it to start with I've no idea, but assume correct astra merit ones, I did have the numbers of the springs on the receipts, but was a few years back, just checked and have been thrown out at last clearout, as warranty was over.
I'm happy to email you some piccies if you want ?, if it will help, just pm me your email.

Its not pictures, like I said you know your stuff so im not doubting you however I put -30mm GSI springs on mine and it kept it at about the same hight!?

hmmmmmmmmm confusing.

tabetha.... where have u been.
Just what I thought and i never see him driving about anymore :(

I put -30mm GSI springs on and it sat too high!!

I had a friend who had a fiesta 1.4, he put fiesta turbo springs on and it sat on the floor, it was so low you could only just get it off the drive! thats why i never understand why ppl say the gsi springs will make it sit higher. Mind you it was a ford
