Hello,

I have just bought a 1996 Astra and am trying to connect a headunit in properly. The red wire going into pin 2 which i believe is the one from the ignition does not have any voltage.

I know i can take a feed off of the cigarette lighter, but i would like to do it properly.

According to the haynes manual i have this wire comes from fuse 7 which i have tested and is fine and the warning lights and 'headlights on' warning buzzer work. The thing i am unsure about is what AB and AB with a line through are in the haynes manual wiring diagram.

I am going to trace the wire back to the fuse and see if it is connected to the circuit at the weekend but was wondering if anyone knows what the problem could be.

Thank you very much for any help.

James

yes, even with the car on there isnt any power.

i know it should be a perm live with key in or out!! so the wire could just be broke some where,

i had the same problem with my van, i wired both iggnition and battery feed to the perm live and that sorted it.

hope this helps mate

It might also be your head unit mate. it should have a red and yellow wire on it, with bullet connectors on, unplug the red, and plug it into the yellow wire and vice versa (the lead comming from the head unit, not the wires pre iso block on the loom. Sometimes this works for Vauxhalls. Otherwise it might be a loose or broken wire

Thanks for the replies.

I will have to trace the wire and see why it isnt working. I think it might have something to do with the part that switches the circuit when the key is in the ignition. Just not sure what the AB in a box is on the circuit in the Haynes manual.
