Hi all,
I'm a total noob to the astra scene.
I have a '96 Astra F olympic.
I purchased a new alarm, old one not working properly.
My problem is... how do I remove the factory alarm (think it says laser on it).
I tried just disconnecting the box under the bonnet but then car wont start
I know I need to remove the wiring at footwell, but when I removed the kick panel, I got worried about all the wires in front of me, I don't know where to begin.
Can anyone help me????
or has anyone got a pic of what I have to disconnect?

any help would be greatly appreciated

if it sais laser then its not the factory alarm its an aftermarket job, and itll have a built in immobilizer hence why your car wont start when you remove the control unit, on the control unit theyll be a bunch of wires coming out of it, youll have to follow all of them and trace them and disconnect them and then rejoin all the original loom back togetther where its been spliced in.

thanks for the info, sounds like a lot of work.
I think i'll have to get someone who knows what they're doing to have a look at it.
seems a bit too awkward for a dunce like me.

I really appreciate the quick response

If your afraid to remove the alarm thats already on it because of the wiring I really wouldn't recomend fitting a new one yourself!

Yeah, Your right,
I think I'll Let someone else have a look at it.
thank u

The alarm I got for it is just a noise maker in the Argos Catalogue!!
Thought I could figure it out. Instructions for that were simple.

if its just an argos one it should be pretty simple to wire up, its usually just a positive and a negative wired to the battery that detects voltage drop, for example: some one smashes your window, pulls the door pin up, opens the door, interior light comes on, the alarm senses that the voltage has dropped so it goes off, theyre pretty crap TBH

yeah, I know it's crap, but i just want some sort of detarrent.
Setting it up shouldn't be a problem for me, at least that's what I thought until I discovered the problems with removing the old one.

Thanks for all your help guys, I got it sorted over the weekend,
Got everything ready for MOT, even got struts and mounts replaced.
Thanks again for all your help and your speedy responses.
