Hi gang - Mark, Leon, Jono, and a few more besides. Chris passed away May 13th of 2018; she died of sepsis, a complication of her cancer. I was at her side when she went. Most of the year, and until March of this year I have been very busy at work; only had one weekend off.

I still have my Rio Verde, low mileage Mk3, with very little mileage added since I bought it. My blue Astra had to go and I have been regularly running a Mk4 Estate.

I am dating someone new, an Irish colleen about my age. She is not into cars as such but is quite amenable to days out and meals, and does not mind meeting people; she can talk your ears off.

Catch you all soon, Mal, ake Phoenix11.

It's good to hear from you again... it's been a while! Very sad to hear about Chris but good to hear that you seem to be doing ok.

I bought and did up a mk4 for Vicki (you may remember her?), we've gone our separate ways now but remember that being a nice drive to be honest.... I did cambelt kit, clutch, got some alloys and resprayed them, new tyres, new cat, new brakes, new handbrake cable, new exhaust, new discs & pads, new drums & brake cylinders, new gearstick basket/socket (there was play in the gearstick), new front bearings.... did lots to it. Was a lovely car, drove like new (but then I guess it would with everything I did to it). Then she decided to bugger off and trade it in straight away  ahaha.

My current daily is a mk5 SRI 2.0 turbo, it's nice with its leather heated seats etc. but it's fuel economy is shocking (I knew it would be bad but it's just silly!), soon to be replaced with my old 1.7td Isuzu MK3 Astra again, just need to repair it as the turbo and clutch have gone.

I can relate to being busy with work, it's all I've been doing as of late with very little in the way of socialising.... That and de-stressing from work by doing bodywork and paint on my GSI (aka solvent abuse), that's been pretty much "me" for a long time now- work and garage.

Hi Mal, really sorry to hear about the loss of Chris.

Glad you have found someone new though, it's always good to have some company. Also glad to hear you still have a mk3 :)

Sad to hear about your loss, just make sure whatever is happening you talk to people, talking to people is very healthy and bottling up is terrible for you mental health. Glad you have found someone else though mate.

Sorry for your lose, was lovely meeting you both many years ago

Hello Mal,

I haven't been on the forum for a long long time and how sad to learn of your loss on my first visit back. I only met Chris a couple of times but I have always had fond memories of the conversations with her, it was because of Chris that my wife came along to the couple of car meets that she attended! For myself, the last few years have shot past, usual story familiar to most; work, kids, family, home etc etc. Car wise, I still have my GSi (20 years now!!) but it hasn't moved in many years, sadly its rotting away but hopefully a plan is being hatched to see if it can be saved. My GTE is still my daily car at the moment (had it longer than the GSi, time marches on!). Are you still in the same line of work? I moved work premises a couple of years back but if youre still in the same area and feel like a cuppa please feel free to contact me. Always was a pleasure to see you, best regards. Mark
