Hi all
I have just bought Valerie (named after the previous owner) a 1998 mk3 Astra 1.6 Arctic in a fetching shade of pink (it was originally red).
It is a typical old lady owned car having been serviced from new every year and whatever it required it got.
At the moment the mileage is just about 29k and runs sweet as a nut, it is a solid little car never used in winter and never seen any road salt so is solid all he way through.
The car was sat at my mates garage for a while before I happened upon it.
So later this year me and three lads from work are doing the Lands end to john o groats via A,B and C classified roads using Valerie (the astra).
This is a test run before I take Valerie across Europe next year for a tour to Italy.
So hello from me and Valerie and I hope to keep you updated on our progress.
Oh I'm also looking for a single 8 spoke alloy wheel as we seem to be missing one.

Yes I will attempt to post some pics as I go along.
Although Valerie is sounding sweet I intend to change the cambelt and water pump just to be on the safe side.
We have found a roof box for the camping gear and have begun to ring round to get her insured for the four of us.
This trip is a pre cursor to next year when I hope to take Valerie over to Italy.
The last time I drove a mk3 was when they were new so can't recall how comfortable they were but I'm sure I can sort something out to make the journey a little easier on the back, I do seem to recall the mk3 were a bit soft on the suspension which will help.
So that's the latest update, cambelt and waterpump kit bought, I'm working all week so will see if I can skip off over the bank holiday weekend to change the belt.

Being a Arctic does the air con work still? good idea on giving it a good service once done shouldnt need to touch it at all. We are waiting on new stickers but I would love to send some for the car for the trip if thats ok? If you can pm me your details I will donate them.

You should create a owners diary and keep us update with the car then the trip. We can link it over to facebook or something and maybe drum up some sponsorship or something to assist you!

Hello and welcome to the club! Sounds like a great trip even in the one in the UK, would love to tour over Europe one day. Definitely get some pics up of the car, it's amazing how these little old minters keep cropping up from old ladies lol.
