Right, so as a few of you will know, I smashed my car into a bollard in an icy carpark. Taking off the bumper etc, it's obvious that it's worse than previously thought.

Now, I am being offered a car by a friend of a friend type, who is willing to do me a good deal. I know the car will be a good runner as I see this bloke more than once a week, so it's not like he can sell it then avoid me.

Anyway... it's an automatic  But it's got the 1.6i 16v engine, unsure of whether it's SOHC or DOHC, but either way it's >100bhp which is a nice difference to my 59bhp Astra.

Apparently the cars are really quick with good acceleration, comfortable, rubbish at handling and bloody old.

Just wondered if anyone has had any experience with these cars. Apparently they're very popularly modded in Poland, Holland etc.

Looks like my granddad would drive it... but hey. If I can get it would 12 months MOT for less than a couple of hundred quid????

Do you get the cloth cap with it....
Seriously though, my gf used to have one on a j plate, and it never let her down.
Does this mean you've written off the Astra then? Or would this be a temporary set of wheels till you get it sorted?

The Astra's pretty wrecked. Due to my conscience I can't do the work myself, then drive it... or sell it on.

So I'm taking it to a body shop owned by another friend of a friend (If I take it anywhere else they'll say it's not worth it). I'll get a quote and weigh up the options.

If it's say, a hundred quid more to fix the Astra, then I will... but if it's too much to fix, I'll break what I can and then weigh it in.

Hopefully you'll get it sorted mate, like you say if it comes to the worst just flog any bits you can off it.

Exactly... that's what I've been thinking. Colour code the bumpers (it's the exact colour of my Astra (plus a few years of weathering) so I've got loads of paint.

What else... ummmm, nice exhaust, nice wheels.... There we are done. I'll practically be driving a Rover Coupe.

will never let you down, classic honda engineering

lol theres a guy round the corner from me who brought one of them new and still has it hes got to be 85 - 90 but it keeps on going hasnt had a service in years! :o

Fair few running around in New Zealand, were popular over there but they are bit well...ummm, designed for the older gentleman? They have 80's styling written all over it, but its cheap and its a honda, so if its not economical to get the astra fixed, go for it

A Honda that was built by Rover (the euro ones, check the VIN plate).

Most of the bits are shared with the Rover (R8) 200/400.

I had a Rover 214 and it wasn't half a rusty bugger. Mostly check the rear wheel arches for any rot.

If by any chance you want to know a bit more about it. Try here www.aronline.co.uk under Rover 200/400. There's a bit about the Concerto there too.

Oh if you want to know if it's SOHC or a DOHC. Have a gander under the bonnet. My money says it's SOHC.
