Hi everyone....i have an L-reg astra cesaro 1.6 which at the moment is in the garage at home cos i am working away.
Anyway when i get home in a few weeks i want to put electric wing mirrors in it. I have looked at the how2's on this matter and they seem to deal with later models that already have the wiring in. So does anyone know if mine will have the wiring in and if it doesnt can anyone do a how to explaining saying what else is needed aswell as the switch and obviously leccy mirrors and pics would be great too.
thanx...dyln

mines a late model but didnt have the wiring in place in the doors.i went down a local scrap yard and pulled the complete door looms out with mirror switches and conectors.
i then split the loom open and removed the mirror wires from it and added them to the loom in my doors. the hardest bit is putting the pins in the wright places in the black conector that goes between the door and car. if this dosent help much i'll write it out explain exactly what i done, but it'll have to wait for a couple of days, very busy. John

Basically, on my car I've not got the door looms either, but hopefully I have the car loom, so if you've got no door looms its still easy, if you aint got the car loom then forget about elec mirrors, more hassle than its worth.

however, if you have the car loom, and fit the elec mirror door looms, its a case of simply plug all the plugs on the loom into the things they work, and when theres 2 plugs left, the mirror switch will fit into 1, and the mirror itself into the other, put the door card back on, then the elec mirror interior gusset.

note: you will need to change both front door looms to get electric mirrors, in addition you might need a fuse, and a relay.

im doing this tomorrow im just swapping the whole door looms over if i do already have the leccy mirrors conector in my loom mine is a L reg 1.8 gsi

When I ahd the door tweeters out I noticed a multi plug poking out. Is this the heated mirror plug? Can I plug and play?

Baileydog - sounds like you've got the loom in there. for a plug to be that high up it can only be the mirrors.

try and grab some pics if you can and write up a 'how to' on it, would be good info for others.

if your car hasnt got the door loom you could always get a full door loom from a scrappy. the black multi-plug in the door just unclips and pulls out, cant remember exactly how but it should just unclip.

Reviewed this tread again and have a question.

Do I need to get complete heated wing mirrors or can I remove the electrical bits and fit them in to the manuals already on the car? This would save me the trouble of trying to find the same colour ones or shell out for a respray.(the mirrors not the car! :D ). Found loads of eleccy ones in the local breakers and on ebay so parts aint a problem.

i wouldn't even attempt swapping everything over, the glass is very easy to break, and expensive to replace. just get some electric ones and a rattle can - even getting a professional to spray them aint gona cost a lot. your just making life difficult for yourself

Fair enougth. To the breakers yard, Batman...

Make sure the car loom is there on the passenger side of the car. I took the drivers side door card off and found the electric mirror wiring. Then went and bought some Mk2 Astra GTE wing mirrors and fitted them to the Mk3 bases. Then went to fit them to the car, starting with the passenger side and could not find the wiring in the door or the car loom!! So i gave up at that point.

I do have some door wiring looms from a 5 door, which do have central locking, dead locking, electric windows and electric mirrors sitting around soemwhere.
