Igniton barrel / key

Basically mine is an abortion, the old plastic peice is taped to a ****in recut key

This morning it wouldn't unlock the ignition barrel ( steering lock was disengaged so isn't that ) and couldnt do it untill i put the black peice stupidly close to the barrel. I assume they have some kind of code? are they interchangeable?

all in a mk3 of course, R reg

dont know what you mean by "black peice stupidly close to the barrel" but they are coded keys. they have a chip in them that gives of a code for the emoboliser. you can get them done a vauxhall deareship for about £60 or at a local key cutting place that does coded keys for about £6.00. just take your old key with the chip and they will scan it and cut it for you. thats what i did.

What he said above really, just get a new coded key cut/copied from your abortion and you should be OK.

If it comes to it, ignition barrels are interchangeable with just about any other Vaux, I have one + key for sale if you're desperate but you shouldn't need it.

how much would you want for the key and barrel?



today it started fine with out the old key housing anywhere near the barrel, will see how it goes
