as i'm doing more and more to my car now i thought i should start a progress thread

this is my astra which i got for free

its a california in spectral blue [the best colour imo]

got some new wheels and clear indys etc. just to clean it up a bit

lowered 60mm

leather seats



and this is how it looks at the moment

i'm on the lookout for a front gsi bumper and some side skirts at the moment
i was thinking mk4 astra side skirts but i wondered if there was any others i could use as its a 5 door

got a front gsi bumper 2 day and grille but theyre black so i will have to paint them but im still not sure about the sideskirts

only 70k on the clock and my uncle has known all the owners from new! it had full service history up to about 2000 but i know it has been serviced at regular intervals since.
also note no rust at all and they are the original arches

also ive recently done headgasket and cleaned all the engine up etc. i will post some pics

got my new bumper and grill on today for a trial fit, i will probably start the paintwork at the weekend

i need some fogs, anybody know how much they are new from vaux?

Nice! brand new gm fogs, alot i'd imagine, i swear i saw a set on ebay the other day for about £40

nice, get yourself a tripod and leave the shutter open for longer on the camera, lets more light in so you get a better picture in dark conditions.

yeh im gonna get a tripod, and now i know what the remote control for the camera is used for, its so you dont wobble it when you press the button

Just looking at your pic of the engine bay, looks like you've removed the air pipe from the front of the air filter box, is that right?

Was wondering if that would make much difference, or if it would cause any problems as i have a tube coming off it going to the black box thing with 2 large screws middle back of the engine........

You cant see it here, its just off picture to the left, but attaches to the back that thing with the 2 screws

Ive already knocked the resonator off to de restrict it a bit, going to drill some holes in it when i get a drill.

that pipe is a vacuum pipe, it controls the valve bit in your air box which lets the warm air come in from the heatshield when the engine is cold, then when the engine warms up it closes and only lets in the cold air from the grill
i snapped the valve unit bit off and blocked the little vacuum pipe with a bung, it just derestricts it a bit more and prob makes it a tad noisier
