Every time I start my car I hear a really odd noise that sounds like water is rushing around inside the dash. When I rev the engine it gets louder then after 10 seconds or so it's gone.

And, I've noticed I'm really badly loosing water!

Sounds like they could be related. Is anyone able to shed some light on this!?

i had that weird sound when i had an air bubble after accidently draining and then refilling my system could the water loss be unrelated symptom? im sure ive asked you this before but i cant remember have you got mayo in you oil?

Nope the oil looks fine! That's what's confusing me.... Also I'm only running on 3 I think. It's missing like a bitch.

Urg. I pay over £100 for the MOT, only to find I may as well of scrapped it!

not nesecarily.... the misfire as its damp and nasty atm id check your plugs make sure the lead ends arnt corroded as it happened to me when we had those terrible floods and im not kidding the car would misfire like mad thought it was a gonner lol

do you keep the car in a garage?

k is there any sign of a leak?

k have you got pleanty of anti freeze in?

well all the basics are covered then when was your water pump and cambelt last changed?

Check your carpets, if the matrix is leaking the carpets will happily soak up and unbelievable amount of coolant.
The sloshing sound you hear is the water rushing around to refill the matrix up again.
Make sure you cap seal is good as it needs to be inorder to form a vacuum when the coolant cools down to draw air out.

i have exactly the same problem in my car but my heater matrix isnt leaking because the carpets are bone dry and the heating always works perfectly, also my water expansion cap is working because even after leaving the car for a while there is still quite a strong vacuum formed. any more help would be awesome

cheers

Definately check what this lads saying, i had a cossie before the astra which had similar symptoms to yours except the water would bubble up when warm.

Every one said the head gasket had gone but after taking the advice of someone from scoobynet i checked the coolant cap & the seal had gone, replaced it & never had any bother since.

"this lad", why thank you kind sir, I am 43!!, and I too have a cossie 2wd sapph.
I remember my mates vette(77 small block 5.3) garage he used(I was away) did both head gaskets, rad and heater as that was "his cooling problem", to do the same 15 miles later and boil over.
When I looked at it, the first thing I looked at the cap had the seal missing, his mate said to take it off so it doesn't pressurise too much, a £7 cap later no problems, he was a bit ****ed after paying a £800 headgasket/rad bill!!

ps please don't mention cossie in the same sentence as head gasket, it makes us nervous wrecks!!
