It started life as a 1.4 16v but due to me frying the piston rings i decided for a change!! i soured a c18xel engine out of an astra F.....paid £250 for it and went to kent to pick it up!!!
the car was holding back like mad with a nasty flat spot...so after speaking to chris and the guys at vxr performance center up the road i decided to go for the ramair 888 replacement filter! makes the car soooo much smoother to drive and at the price of £45 i think its a good price! as you can see i made a temporary cold air feed while mines getting made! i recommend every one to ditch the induction kits and get one of these
this weekend has gone well, considering last weekend i was planning scrapping the car because i lost interest.. but i've had a stroke of luck with another engine
i went to the local scrappies to weigh in some metal and while i was there i had a look around the place to see what was kicking about.. then i noticed something in the corner of my eye.. yes the famous red 16v badge on the back of a calibra!! get in. had a look around the engine and car to find the engine was absolutely mint and also had full heated leather interior. groved brakes ect.
i ran back to the office and asked how much he wanted for the whole car....£150 he said i've never done a deal so quick in my life!
the cars been put back and i'm picking it up this week then the work will start on doin head gasket, water pump ect.. heres the photos of the day!
and dont let that ecotec fool u!!! it's still the 150bhp redtop
since the weekend it's just been working on getting ready for next weekend.
ive set a gazebo up to keep us out of the weather and hooked up 2 1000w flood lights up to keep it light and warm
also been working on getting everything degreased ect.. and made a nice big workbench in the shed
tomorrow will be hopefully painting engine mounts ect.
Got up bright and early to crack on with things!! first up we got the engine out of my shed and put it on my trolley jack/engine crane
then jacked it into place
i knew those clips would come in handy one day!!
and the wiring begins...took all of 10 minutes
somebody had cut the afm clip off so we had to fit a new one on!
and that was it in and wired up!! but me being an idiot forgot the coil discharge pack off the calibra..which means no spark! wasnt goin to get it then because it was getting late so packed up
just some pics of painting to start with, ones ive found on the computer!
power-steering rack
arb
rear engine mount
and a few other bits and bobs..
so today i went to go get the coil discharge pack from the calibra, plug it into the astra and prayed it started!!
turned the key....and straight up she went without one stutter, no tapping atall and runs sweet as a nut! well happy now i ts was time to tidy up the wiring so i went for it.
was a mess to start with
much better need to replace the white cable ties for black i think thats about the most i can do atm i have to reroute the exhaust because it not the same a calibra! more soon!
had a late night! i wanted to put the ecu in the car to keep it protected this time!! so out came the whole cutter and heres the events of the night!
i put the voltmeter in the relay housing, i think it looks ok and different...obviously people opinions will vary on this!
i also need to pick up a powercap or ecotec plate from somehwere because the sfi box was knackered and the pipe coming off of it when i picked it up! i got the shafts in a new brakes on now jus waiting for some welding to be done on my exhaust and then we'll be back on the ground
