Tha old Astra failed on a few bits and pieces but not too bad (Hopefully) but not been able to sort as been I have in to Hospital for an Op (Rebore and new Pistons!!)

Main one was the emisions too high, what would you recommend to try changin, exhaust has a straight thru middle pipe to the rear silencer which im not sure if this effected it, but car has been stood for a while havin a few jobs done and does kick out some smoke on start up, do you rekkon best fitting a new CAT and sensor or could somethin else be on its way out. It has a Viper type induction air filter. Does use a bit of oil which I keep topped up but has done for a while and never effected it before

Hi Andy, u probley understand these more than me matey

Fast Idle test (2750 - 3250 rpm)

Co: 0.395 Fail

Second fast Idle

Lambda 0.970 - 1.034 Fail

Everything else passed

Cheers

A cat should be fitted to your car if it was registered after '92.

Also, what colour is the smoke when you start it up? If it is blue, then you are burning oil. Black, is over fueling. Both of which will increase the HC (hydrocarbons) and the CO (carbon monoxide).

It might be worth cleaning out the throttle body and all the breather pipes. How old are your spark plugs? If in any doubt, replace them.

Does your Lambda sensor work correctly?

I know the engine is burnin a bit of oil but has done for a while thru a few previous mots and passed ok, plugs are new and I have cleaned out the breather pipes a few times so looks like its coming down to the Lamba sensor. Cheers pal

To be honest, I would sort out why you are burning oil first before worrying about your emissions. Valve seals would be my best bet.

The burnt oil will have/ will be coating the honeycombe parts of the cat, which will reduce it's working capabilities, or even killed it completely...

I have known for a cat to be scrap within 2000 miles of it being fitted because the engine was burning oil!

Get a new Lambda sensor. yours has had it.
A CO value of .395 is not too bad. Its close to the upper limit. I had 1.395 and had to replace the cat.

as said get a new lambda sensor and give throttle boddie a clean, your readings arent really that bad. i had a de-cat on a x16xe and my reading was 3.6something. but if its burning oil get it sorted worst thing about ecotechs that
