Little update, got my new speakers in today but did them a little differently than normal!

*new speakers

*got old speakers out to leave the holes in the doors
Speakers.jpg

*destroyed the inners ( by cutting and snipping through the speaker structure under thr cone [in the circle cut outs]) to be left with the ring and a 3mm step-in that had the foam attached (to screw through, later pic)
Speakers1.jpg

*sat new speaker inside - it was probobly about 1 mm too big but the side pegs sorted that out in next picture
Speakers2.jpg

*folded over the tags to keep in position and screwd through the step-in with small screws to hold the speaker onto the door base
Speakers3.jpg

*all screwd in and wired up - 1 hour inc. dinner!

work and sound amazing and saved myself 100's of pounds from not buying speaker pods from halfrauds!

should be made a sticky and i should be given an award for saving people money! :D

lol, enjoy

(i should probobly note that getting a second or spare pair of speakers to try this on would be a good idea if you do not feel confident!) keeps me outta tha shizzel!

m8 speaker pods from halfrauds! are £10

lmao dave, 100's of pounds :) i used some MDF rings in the civic as the magnets on the comps wear to big to fit in the door and the electric windows wudnt go down, i imagine ill have to do the same in the astra aswell. how easy is it to custom make pods with mdf and fibreglass? could i do it? as ive no experiance with fibreglass, but we all need to start somewhere eh

played davey but the worth of the existing speakers may be more than a tenner when it comes to resale

Looks like a money/time saver, those baffles are probably stiffer than the halfords plastic sh*t aswell.

i was gonna do this to mine then my cousin gave me a brand new set of autoleads adaptors so irrelivant really but if i had done it then this thread wouldve helped

doing it this way do you not have to add a home made gasket so the magnet doesn't catch the window?

That would depend entirely on the mounting depth of the speaker tho don't forget.

Normally do mine this way too, if the speaker's too deep and catches the glass, just add an mdf ring inbetween to space them out.

These side pegs...
Did you basically hacksaw into the outer ring, then fold them over?

Because, they dont seem to be there in the previous pic..
and
You havnt explained how they 'appeared'

Did you get the speakers from Ebay?
and
Will this work on all Astras? 3 door, 5 door etc?

Thanks mate.....

Thats a good cash saving mod....
A Tenner can go along way....

lol @ this.....

OE speakers were'nt worth £10 brand new, let alone after 10 - 19 years use!

Great call aswell Kev.....

mk3 cavs, vectra's, corsa's, works with any vaux that has the daft shape speaker mount built into the original speaker.

No cutting of the new speakers was involved, onli cutting the old speakers out of the standards

The side pegs were on the speakers as standard, they stick out and i just folded them over!

Had the speakers from a friend as the are the same size as standards, yes they will work on all doors and models!
