Well i wired in my outside air temp sensor the other week and every now and then when the car is started from cold the temp on the digital display will flash a couple of times then go to how it normally is? Any reason behind this?

think it flashes below a certain temp to let you know it`s bloody cold out 
3.0C or below it will flash for ice warning

Yeah think it did it on 3.5 and below a few times, i just thought i must have wired it in a bit dodgey, but fail not it seems its meant to do that

As above Ben. Didn't think it had been that cold the past couple of days to set it off.
Yeah, was about a week or so ago i think. I've had lows of -2.5 and highs of 12.5
