I want to paint up my new throttle body, inlet and cylinder head. What's the best paint to use? Also what preparations need to be done before painting? They'll be cleaned up and degreased but is anything else required? I don't want paint flaking off 3 months later!

You cant go wrong with hammerite, just make sure everything is spotless and the paint will stick with out flaking. hammerite comes in the most popular colours too

I found painting the block and box out of the car easier with a spray but it all depends what and where your painting etc.

These are the bits I'll be painting:

I'll get a tin and brush it on then. Cheers guys :)

yeh that would be fine and as i see your doing a conversion from spi how much did that cost you as i was thinking of doing that

petrol can leave a residue, best off with brake cleaner or carb cleaner etc.

Make sure you flat it back to allow the paint to stick and to remove any oxidization that would make the paint flake. Dont forget to Primer the metal first as it wont want to stick otherwise

you shouldn't do, I think hammerite tins say use a primer on alloy but I never did  & never had a problem.

u can put any colour on once you have a high temp paint as a base, as you can use it as a primer for another colour, i had the same set up painted my TB peugeot met red, and inlet yellow lol,

steps you need

high temperature paint, = spray, use this for a final colour or as a base,

colour of your choice, = metallics or non metallic, in spray

high temp clear coat for over the top, in spray

for the head you just need to spray it silver again high temp paint then high temp clear coat over the top, i intend to put 3-4 layers of paint on as drys like a matt then clear coat it about 3-4 times, and that was on a XE bottom end and when i removed it, it never flaked

you dont need all this high temp paint, yes it works but so does normal stuff.

You dont have to use a primor but depands on how thin the paint is that your using... If your using spray can then I would suggest using primor to cover (and then flat back with 1200 grade wet and dry) otherwise it will take a lot to cover.
