Ok ive started removing the old drum setup on the back of the astra, everything disconnected bar the handbrake cables asi dunno how to remove them from A: the drums and B: the handbrake itself, ive got the gsi cables and all the other gubbings to fit but im stumped trying to remove them.

You've two options either cut the old handbrake cable just behind the hubs or take the drum off like you would to get into the shoes, let down the handbrake and there's probably a spring to pull back the cable, remove this spring, unhook the cable and pull it out of the back of the hub.

As for disconnecting from the handbrake... There's a long bolt coming off it on the underside. You have to remove an exhaust heatsheild to get to it properly, just wind off the nut and it should pull off. Then pull the cable out of the guides.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense.

Ive got the drum off but still couldnt see how to get it off, dont wanna cut the cable incase i need to re-attach the drums at any point, if i can get it off from the handbrake it shouldnt be a problem coz both drums will be off anyway

I think there was a reason you can't pull it out without the taking the cable off the drums. Its either because the cable has to be pulled through the guides or because the drum would have to be pushed through the gap between the swing arm and the under body; its too big for that though.
I know for sure the cable can't be seperated at the handbrake end.

Best of luck anyway mate
