So its finally moved from its resting place of nearly 2 years

Yeah, it shows

With it all put back together and cleaned up, even the interior cleaned up really well considering how long its been left, i'd say it cleans up pretty well

Even the MOT guy said it looked nice sitting outside in the sun.

But its still a rot box.

It kinda took the wind out of my sails a bit. When i went to pick it up after the MOT it was still on the ramp so i got a good look underneath and it is pretty bad. Some big holes in the floor, 3 attempts at an emissions test and no joy and a back axle that moves around a fair bit.

So its D-day for this, im not a welder by any stretch of the imagination, i dont really have time or space to be taking the full interior out in order to get to the holes nor do i have the time or space to remove the axel to put new bushes in.

Heads pickled with this at the minute so will just leave it a few days and see how i feel then.

I would like to point out that all those corrosion failures are wrong. They have failed it on corrosion within 30cm of a body mounting. The Mk3 does not have one body mounting, it is a monocoque body, not a chassis with a body on top like a land rover for example. So without knowing exactly where all the rust is, there's a good chance not all of it is a failure. Perhaps get some pictures if possible?

The rest doesn't seem all that bad. Axle bushes, get a pair of polybushes?

Parking brake probably wants adjusting up, or a set of shoes worst case.

Emissions CO high could be a number of things but not likely to be too hard to diagnose.

It was pretty bad underneath so i dont doubt that some sort of structural integrity has been affected, needs sorting anyway even if it isnt a direct safety concern.

Back axel bushes ive already priced up from powerflex so not an issue there and emissions arent a problem, probably a decent run up the bypass would do it.

It was new brake shoes that went on it just before i parked it up so just needs adjusting up.

The tester said you get a free re-test if you bring it back within 10 days and i just thought to myself "aye coz i dont work or have any other priorities i can basically strip the entire thing down get it fixed and get it back to you in 10 days"

its true what andy says, so many test have no idea what their doing failure wise, i bet ur car is probably as bad as mine.

what most people forget, door sills are pretty much just cosmetic!

Yeah, the rust probably wants addressing either way. But stuff like sills are very hard to fail, needs to be in a prescribed area like suspension, seat belts etc, but needs to be load bearing too.

Some testers really don't have a clue lol.

crap news but as Andy says dont believe the structure bits

Yup, i opened the boot yesterday, chucked in the 60 quid bushes, closed the boot and returned the keys to the key rack.

More updates coming soon. Possibly, maybe.....probably but i dunno when, really need to finish far cry 5 first
