Doesnt sound too healthy but you really need to be testing it under load, can you loan a fuel pressure gauge and connect it to the rail to see if the pressure dies off when you rev it

Fuel pump and fuel filter now swapped out for new ones, the results = still the same.

So with the thing still running like Gemma Collins on a treadmill I officially give up. I did find this but not sure if I should be worried or not, opinions? 21361

It'll sit and idle quite happily all day and not overheat nor is there any smoke belting out the exhaust so I'm hoping this isn't a problem.

Should also note I bought a brand new bosch fuel filter from euro car parts, fitted in and the thing actually leaked from the actual filter housing, so many horror stories about euro car parts but I don't blame them for this, the box wasn't bashed or anything like that and they exchanged it no hassle.

Nah coolant isn't pressurising any more than normal. I haven't even thought about an engine change yet, might need to start considering it

Yeah it idles fine. Rev it just just dies. Got me seriously stumped

I can't change the rear plugs yet because I can't source an inlet manifold gasket so I don't wanna remove it yet. Coil pack and leads were changed as well. Timing could be a shout, I'll maybe check that next

what was wrong?

Right so, after changing:
Fuel filter
Fuel pump (thanks Murray)
HT leads
Coil pack
Air flow meter
Sensor thing next to the air flow meter
And fresh petrol

It still wouldn't run, so I called in back up in the form of MVR who was the guy who initially helped fit the engine way back in 2010..........or 2011 I forget what year it was. Marty turned up at 9pm on Wednesday night, stuck it on his trailer and text me on Thursday morning to tell me that was it up and running good as new.

So went and picked it up and it's running better than it has in years, whether it's all the new parts fitted or whether it was the initial cause remains a mystery but I'm very happy with how it is now.

What was the problem then..................................

a blocked catalytic converter.

Marty noticed when it was cutting out there was exhaust fumes coming back through the air flow meter so he stuck it on the ramp and disconnected the lambda sensor and the revs picked up. He removed the cat and it ran perfectly, so with the cat suitably disposed of and a straight pipe fitted it sounds and runs great.

So why didn't I think of this? Easy answer, I forgot it had a cat on it. I think it was 2016 the cat got put back on because it failed an MOT on emissions, so it's been there since then and I had no idea. It will never see the light of day ever again.

There's still plenty of bits of engine lying in the boot I haven't put back on yet but I've been busy with other things.

Stay tuned

Generally the simple over looked things cause the issues. Least its all good now

So found this tonight, I thought this was still attached to the car, clearly though, it isnt
