Hey Guys,
Having trouble with my car..again, first off the exhaust has come apart at the down pipe and silencer, not a real problem just haven't had time to sort it and accelerator stuck the other day, had a few bits resprayed on the engine bay and the guy didn't cover the engine up and got clear coat everywhere, so had to take the throttle body and clean the springs and put it back together, has been running fine for a couple of days.

It being mothers day had to go see my mum on the way there it was idling to high (1500-1800rpm usually 800-1000) and on the way back it started spluttering and then the Engine management/ignition light came on, Guessing overrunning maybe because of the exhaust?

Obvious place to start is sorting out the exhaust but is there anything else I should look at to start of with.

It's a C16SE and its recently had its cam belt and water pump changed along with a head gasket change.

Thanks Ash

Either that, or the vacuum hose from the throttle body can make it idle high if disconnected.

Check the gaskets on the inlet too, if they are leaking they can also cause a high idle.

yes but its not just idling high its also spluttering at anything after 1500 revs but only when driving, anyone know where the diagnostics port is? I cant find it!

ok, sorry am getting fault code 21 - Throttle position sensor High voltage, which would explain the high revs i guess (putting to much fuel in?), i'm guessing its the 3 pin one on the throttle body, theres water on the tps valve so hopefully a clean up will sort it.

thanks everyone, think i'll keep a paper clip in the car at all times!

Good luck, if not they arent usually much anyways. It is a 3 pin sort of round plug.

I always have a paper clip in the car :) Came in handy on the motorway once.

Have you sorted your exhaust yet ?, do you want me to wled it for you ?
Anything that causes a artificialy high idle speed is likely to put the engine management light on, mine also did this when stuck, but being auto couldn't put into gear at 4000rpm(idle)!!!, I bypassed the gear lever starter cut out and started it in gear with me foot on the brakes.
High tps reading won't cause it to idle higher to that extent.
tabetha
