Hey all...

As you can tell by the title, this is about the strut mounts, i bought a new astra, and the MOT is due next monday, and i need to replace both the mount tops because the old ones have perished abit. I bought both already, so i had to go ahead and replace them myself.... so, i did one this morning, and there MUST be an easier way! i am not going to write down how i did it, because it took like 5 hours to do one of them(maybe more i lost track of time!) and this post would go on and on and on! anyone changed them before that can write down the easiest way to do it?! thanks in advance people

sorry mate there is no quick way to do it if its your 1st time, you have to remove the strut all the ball joints etc then clamp the spring then change the strut top, its the only way

ahh right ok, guess it will be an early start tomorrow to do the other one then! just thought there might have been something i was missing with it taking so long, doesnt matter how long it takes really i mean i just need to save money by not taking it to the garage.

cheers mate

its a good job once you know how its done, will save a few quid if you can do it yourself as well. Ive done it so many times i can do it under an hour now:nod:

Get stuck in and do them yourself.

As people have said it gets easier once you've done a few. Biggest tip is buy some good quality spring compressors, Draper do some good ones as they hold the spring better.

You may as well get used to it you may want to lower ya car someday . you may hate this job but i'm sure if I said to anyone here what they would rather do a dashboard swop or top mounts - most peeps i rekon would go for swoping the top mounts.

watch for seized bolts, keep a mate with a running/working car handy, pick a day when the spares shop or scrappy is open - just in case!!!
