my GSi spoiler finally got delivered this afternoon, and on inspection it appears the person that had it before was a complete numpty..

the bracket still has all of its mounting points, but the prat has cut off EVERY point on the spoiler that its supposed to be screwed on at, and it appears they held it on with double-sided tape all the way round

there really are some idiots out there.

any ideas what i can do cuz i dont really wanna go down the same daft route, short of cutting the 2 top points off my sport spoiler and fixing to it with a bit of filler or resin im blank

you can get some of that really strong velcro stuff couple of strips of that would do it

yeah i saw that in the how to section, was going to do that for the two edges but wouldnt really wanna hold the whole spoiler on with it

repair it with fiberglass? maybe get the locatiing holes from your standard spoiler and attach it that wya. with the addition of the velcro so you got ye olde 2 prong attack

yeah thats the only way i could think of, thats what i meant by the 2 top points off my old spoiler.. so is fibreglass the best bet then? i've honestly never worked with it before, heard its a pain in the ass to sand, but i wouldnt need to sand it for this since its out of sight

use tiger seal mate, best stuff for the job

i've never even seen that stuff never mind use it lol

Most boat places sell tiger seal as it's used alot in the marine industry. It's expensive but bloody good stuff

any waterproof bonding agent will work. Tiger Seal is really good though, just be careful you don't get it on your paintwork!

Make sure its bonded on super tight!

before i took the astra off the road my spoiler decided to depart with the car at 140mph:lol:(erm i mean 70mph)
Ripped clean off with the force of the wind getting to it, it flipped through the air and missed going through a friends windscreen by a matter of inchs!
Ill give it its due though, it stayed in 1 piece!

well obviously if i use that it will be going on paintwork, but i'll damn sure not to get anywhere thats visible, at least, not where it will be visible with the spoiler on

thing is im trying to think ahead as well, im not going to be keeping this car as it has no ABS, and i think im gonna need that when i go for a big engine, so what i planned to do is buy another mk3 with ABS somewhere down the line and put all my kit (that i'll eventually have) onto that one before weighing this one in, not gonna be able to do that if i tigerseal it on though am i?

no disrespect but i really do think that the way i said is more practical its screwed to the car and its removable so if you decide one day to break your car you have a gsi spoiler that you dont have to ruin just to remove it

^ beat me too it

lol, yeah i think im gonna go down the route of trying to attach the mounting points from my old spoiler, its a bit more hassle but it'll save me money in the long run, im just a bit lost as how to go about it, but i suppose i wont know until i have a go eh?

maybe i should give using fibreglass a go since im going to have to use it on my sideskirts when i start cutting them, really not looking forward to that

 well after that story it goes without saying that whatever i do it'll be on there well, though the only time this car will see 140 is if i drop it from a plane, 117 is the best it has and ever will see

just swap tailgates if you're going to be weighing this one in after you've got a new one ;)

thats a very good point actually, and since i'd be stripping it of pretty much everything anyway..

depends on whether anybody wants to buy my standard spoiler now then :P

What do you want abs if you change engines? My abs doesn't work and tbh i will be junking it soon as it's crap tbh. Much prefer the feel of the brakes without it

well because im an awful driver and i keep locking my wheels up of course
i mean, when i lock up i can get it right again in a second, but thats a second im not always going to have, and if i have a bigger engine chances are im going to be going quicker and in a slightly heavier car, so i can see it ending badly.. but we'll wait and see
