im lookin for a set of hids for my estate but with so many diff ones about like H1 H11 H4, which ones would be right for mine, would i need a set of hi/low H1s or something else

yeh i have the standard lamps, gonna get them darkened a bit first to match the car colour. so im looking for hi/low H4's then

Personnally I would go for something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/H4-SLIM-LINE-XENON-HID-KIT-8000K-vauxhall-astra-91-98_W0QQitemZ360191062593QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item53dd0f7241&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Bi-Xenon ones give xenon hid light on High and Low beam and i'd go for the 6000k version which gives out the most light. Anything above 6000k gives out a purple light when you look at the headlamps and is more for show imo
And ya i'd go for the hi/low type

Might get some of them for mine

4300K(Kelvin) is the most light output measured in Lumens, but to the naked eye 5000 Kelvin would seem the best.
There are two types of H4, there is H4-3, and H4-4, the H4-3 uses HID on dip and a normal single filament bulb for the main beam.
H4-4 uses a HID bulb that has a shutter that moves to either main or dip position as required.
Having just had HID on for 1 year, and taken them off, I would say if you are going to get any get the H4-3.
The height difference between the dip and main made the HID un-useable, if you had a good dip the main was directing the planes to land on you.
If you dipped it down to have a good main the dip fell about 5 feet in front of the car, at least with a seperate main beam bulb you stand a better chance as the point of focus(bulb filament) would be a lot nearer where it needs to be.
I have gone back to my Philips Extreme bulbs, just as good on dip as HID and same colour as 5000K as well, ie crispy white, but the mainbeam is awsome compared with the HID.
I cleaned both the insides of the headlights prior to fitting HID so they had a fair chance, both were set on a beam setter.
I have a H4-4 set for sale if you want, as personally I think they are ****, no way would I go back to HID, not on a astra anyway, the lights are just too crap a quality pattern wise, way too much stray light.
I wired my extreme through relays, made a big difference, and did the permanent dip mod, ie when the lights are switched to main beam the dip beams stays on and so the stalk becomes a switch for either main beam filament on or off, does not affect dip at all.
This MOT ok and legal.
