X16XEL Fuel Leaking from Fuel Filler Flap!

Hey people,

Went out to the Arctic 16v the other day, and there was a terrible smell of petrol. Went around to the drivers side and there was fuel running down the side of the car!

I unlocked the car and opened the undamaged fuel flap to about 1/2 tbsp of petrol "Falling out". So I unscrewed the fuel filler cap and there was fuel right up to the gills!!

What could cause this? I put £40 in @ 114.9 and the red light was on before that, so about 33L of fuel added and about two gallons on board before hand.

Driven it today right down to the red again and put £30 in at 111.9 and nothing. Not sure what's going on. Gauge seems spot on when I fill it from half... and from 1/4.

Any advice greatly recieved!

the float for the fuel level could be sticking in all the scum that collects in the bottom of the fuel tank mine did it for ages then freed itself one day an now works correctly

i had this same problem 1) i slightly overfilled the tank 2) the fuel cap it was the rubber seal round the filling cap that had perished and was leaking through the rubber and a new filler cap and now the problem is solved )
