Hi all iv been trying to get some pictures of my astra sport iv owned it for just over 12 months and in that time iv done alot of work to it, its a late 1997 R reg 2.0 sport 5 door i havnt seen another one at all the same yet but im sure someone must have one somewhere! So in the last 12 months iv serviced it cambelt change cam seals, new lower arms antiroll bar links new shocks springs new exhaust radiator replaced due to corroded away as normal with these cars its had various welding to bring it back up to roadworthy condition, changed all the normal heater bulbs etc etc trying to get it back to original as i can,iv had many many vauxhalls over the years and worked on them for the last 28 years all from novas to vx220s but always had a soft spot for the astra sport having driven them all from the 1.6 to the 1.7 td to the 2.0 8v and 16v but loved my astra premier i had and 3 ls and 1.4si but my pineapple astra sport 3 door really stuck in my head and just wanted to get another one but alas non around and mine i think has gone to scrapyard in the sky this astra has had loads and loads of money spent on it over the years so if anyone can shed any light on it or has any info would be great

Yeah fully agree the sport always looks really tidy, i did work on one many years ago that was orderd from factory with every single dealer option onit and had irmscher kit on to that did look smart!

I have the front Irmscher add on for sale in the for sale section if that helps lol

Some updated photos car finaly back few bits to finish off but not to much! Sneaked a mk2 in to the picture to showing thediffrence from a mk2E to the mk3 F which looks alot better!!

I didn't like the later ecotec engines, i had an R Reg GSI and it was very disappointing.
I had 1.4 LS hi-torq, that was a fun car to drive.

I loved my ecotec GSI and all the others I had never had issues

Each to their own mate but thise engines were garbage. 206 GTI was a quicker car and that's saying something. Also, without being too cheeky here, i loved the mk3 astra and if your telling me you never had any issues with any of yours then your talking nonsense.

Sounds like the ones you've had were just **** tbh :noidea:

The xev ecotec engines are pretty good if looked after and you can get some good power out of them if you want to spend the money tho!

I've always preferred the ecotec over the "redtop", I had the ecotec x20xev in my 1st vectra and 8 years trouble free. Would happily have another

GSI never had an issue with the engine in the time I owned it which was a fair few years. I looked after it and maintained it so it looked after me. Sounds like you had a bad run with them. My first sport I had a few issues with TPS's etc but cleaned regular never a problem in the end

The ecotecs are a good engine there was few teething problems when they first come out but you get that with any engine/manufactuer the common complaint was its always over revving when i take my foot of the accelerator which was normally sorted by the IAC being changed them teaching the driver to take there foot off the acc pedal when changing gear haa!
Cracking manifolds are the only major flaw with the studs snapping in the head which is a rite painapart from few earl ones shredd the belt down to poor cambelt idlers they been a good reliable engine as we know!

Few pictures after all back toghther looking a bit cleaner to managed to get it out in the sun for a change
