A 1.7td rev counter takes the feed from the alternator 'W' terminal, so yes it will work as long as you have a W terminal on your alternator, I dont know if the loom has the wire in already. But would be easy to fit it.
You will need a 1.7td dash, not the petrol one.
I like white wheels on a white car, my old gte had them. But I think cav slabs would look better darker, a nice dark gunmetal grey would work well.

When you say stuffed, have the turbine blades hit the housing? The bearing tends to wear hole in the inlet housing back plate, I dont know if thats part of the rebuild kit for them.

Before you do anything check for cracks in the head between the valve seat's in each chamber, if it's got any just bin it. If you get it skimmed they will hot wash it that will clean up all your ports ect. New seals all come in head kit. The injectors can be a pain, bigger bar and heat the head...
