After owneing sevral vauxhalls in the past ive bought my 1st mk3 astra, well i swopped it for a seat cordoba, any ways its going to be a small project my plans are simple a 5dr Astra GSI, its got 100k on the clock but the inside is really clean no usual rip on drivers seat ect also this has an drivers and passangers Air Bag and a vaux CD player, its got an super quick 1.4 8v moto in which will be soon exiting the car and been replaced with a 2.0 8v engine cheaper than an x20xe conversion but parts are easier to find, soo them are my plans and here is a pic:

Alredy the brakes have faild but ive replaced the master cylinder and both front calipers and disk's for 1.6 16v ones (small improvment)

soo what you all think i will be getting some more pic's up shortly

slight issues with the astra, it appers that the head gasket has gone, with me working in a call center i dont pull enough money to jump stright in and do the engine conversioin that i was planning on doing as i am saveing up for, soo off i went down to CMF (cleveland motor factors) with the expection of my wallet been emptyed here is a brake down of how much a head gasket costs to replace:

Cyl head bolts £6.75
Cyl head Gask £3.92
Thermostat £3.45
Hex Sockets £3.99
15w/40 Oil £6.50

Sub Total £24.21 = Including VAT £28.45

for a head gasket set i was expecting it to be like £60 odd i love vauxhall's
soo i had a small amount of spare cash soo i bought an electrick airal as the one that was on the astra was snapped and was a manual one, to my de-lite all the wieres were there for an electirck aireal just cut and joined wires :)

I will get some pic's up soon with the rebuild of the 1.4 super shed :)

another small update,
driving home 2night the cam snapped :O i was doing around 40mph, got the car towed home any ways stipped cam carrer off took cam out, left head on for a laugh i had a 1.6 cam chucked that in put everything back together and turned the key and guess what Astra Power Agen :) took just over 2 hours to repair this 8v beast plus it seams a bit quicker on bottom end, very suprised that there were no bent valves,

this car will be soon up for sale as a nice GSi is in the pipe linein june now :)

lol no high / low comp doesent matter if a cam belt snapps or a cam snapps it leaves the some valves open and some closed how ever the pistons are still moveing, once a piston is at TDC ie dead top it will strike the valve which results in bending the valves, now it has been known to bend valves slightly and once new cam belt / cam is fitted the valve seats correct the bent valve only some times got to be on gods good side for this to happen,

hope this kind of helps 8v engines are just easy as pie to work on and cost pennys when there go pop, compared to 16v
