Hi, changed the cam cover gasket, and now it will not start. RAC been out, no spark. Changed leads, distributor and cap, rotor arm, coil, ignition module, there is not a crank sensor it has the hall sensor in the distributor. Basic key, no central locking. Running out of ideas. C14NZ.

Dont know much about these engines and im sure someone with better knowledge will come along.

Does the hall sender in the dizzy give the primary trigger for the ignition?

Im sure you have, but i would revisit everything you have disturbed to change the gasket. Give everything a good look, particularly wiring looking for corroded terminals or broken connections.

Hope this helps.

My guess it's the hall sensor. I changed everything and in the end it was the hall sensor in the distributor cap. There was no spark but also no fuel.
Got (the mechanic) one from the scrap, engine runs better than ever. Not sure if it has a immobiliser, you can try the spare key.

Hi, It is a new distributor/Hall sensor, no immobiliser fitted as far as I know. Looking like the ECU?

Did you find a new one including the hall sensor?
Best thing is to check if you get any readings on/to the plug from the distributor.
When I had something like the same issue, this road mechanic was checking it with a LED or light bulb, it did not flash, which means the computer is not sending a signal.
He checked the fuse box and did not gave a signal. So the ECU did not get any data so it's not doing anything.
First thing to check is if the ECU is giving a signal. There is no check engine light?

Thanks, I will pass this on to the mechanic, purchased one from Powerspark.

Still no luck, mechanic now saying only 10.5 volts getting to the coil, possibly a ICM fault, which has already been changed, bad connection somewhere? Running out of ideas.

any further news with this?

this needs another set of fresh eyes to investigate. i know anything is possible but a coincidence is very unlikely that the car wont start after the rocker cover change?

Had 2 RAC mechanics look at it at home before towed to the garage. Garage is struggling to find a reader for faults, pre OBD 2 data.

They could do the paper clip test, although really, this is car is pre ECU code reading. They need to go old skool!

Did they disconnect the battery before starting the job? If not it is possible that something may have been damaged.

As already mentioned, try the paper clip test (jumb pins A and B iirc), and count the number of flashes on the dash. Number of flashes can be translated to fault codes. For example, seven flashes - pause - then three flashes, means fault code 73 which refers to the air flow sensor...

Try that and let us know how it goes.

Finally fixed, broken wire in the loom that runs behind the cam cover, old school mechanic sorted within 2 hours.

can't beat an old skool mechanic with really knowledge
