Hi all, got a 95 mk3 astra sport 1.8, looking to put a v6 in, does any 1 know which is the best engine to put in, i.e. 3.0 omega, 2.5 cavalier (understand theres two types, early and late) etc.
Also which box should i use, got a f20 in the garage or should i use the one that comes with it? also how much work is involved? and welding or cutting needed?
thanks

3.2 ;-)

In all seriousness the 2.5 V6 from a mk3 is the best - the only issue being approx a 20mm gap on one engine mount that you have to space out, and the gearbox mount if your looking to run a 6spd

C25XE is the easiest but it depends on what gearbox u want to run:

Using the F25 original gearbox there's no needed to do anything more than unbolt, remove, bolt back up, wire up and sort exhaust out...all engine mounts will drop straight onto the Astras subframe.

If you go for the F20 then you need a spacer on the PAS side mount as the gearbox is smaller and therefore the engine sits further across to the N/S. Either solid or simply washers and a longer bolts.

If F28 then you need: 2WD conversion kit, driveshaft spacer, F28 mount and bracket, F28 linkage into the F20 rear bracket. The F28 needs drilling n tapping to accept this mount though.

The V6 radiator is needed for the extra electrics and can with a little moddying of the slam panel fit.

I'm about to undertake the latter on the 10th.

Gonna fully photograph every stage!!!!

thanks guys,
so for the most straight forward conversion a 2.5 cav engine with its standard box is the best bet, is there a rad you can use without having to modify the slam panel, heard of people using either astra td or corsa td ones?
Why would a v6 rad be needed for the electrics, whats different?

You got an auxilary coolant pump connected to the v6 rad which pumps the water round the car after you turn it off to cool it down as the v6 engine temp carries on going up when you turn it off. This pump has an inlet and outlet pipe which connects to the side of the v6 rad thats why you need it.Ive used the v6 rad but didnt bother connecting the auxilary coolant pump up as the boys on mig web who helped me with my conversion didnt bother with some of their's and havent had any probs. But mines there so if i decice in the future to wire it everything is already in place to do it.
