Ok since i bought the astra the ETC light has always been on - on the dash....... i thought this was just due to the freezing weather but now its warmed up a little its still there.....

Would the Light in the switch not lighting cause a problem??

Does anyone know how to flash the codes from the TC ECU?

I bet a million quid its missing a sensor.

lol - thought it ran off the ABS sensors...... if so they are ALL there.....

When I first got my gsi the tc light was on and there was a faulty solinoide (sp) under the throttle body, bloody expensive to fix also

In that situation the light would come on and go out as normal but as you moved it would come on as you took your foot off the throttle

The only way the TC fault codes can be read are with a Tech1 or 2 (can't remember which). There's no DIY method as with the Engine & ABS ECUs.

As Autosparks posted it's probably the solenoid motor that sits under the throttle body which drives the TC throttle. I had the same problem & had to buy a new one. £160 odd IIRC.

Shouldn't think it's anything to do with the On/Off switch lamp but as that's a 5 min fix worth doing 1st just to make sure.

Always check for broken wires before forking out for expensive new parts tho'.

dont seem to be that then, as te light on constant from starting the car and through the drive....

Don't discount it as sometimes mine would come on when starting the car & stay on, sometimes it come on then go off & come on a short while later & sometimes it would come on, go off & then come ages later if at all. The only way to know for sure is to get the fault codes read off your TC ECU. Vauxhall service tried on mine & failed. They told me my TC ECU needed replacing which I proved wrong with a spare ECU. Had an independent Vaux electrics specialist round & with in minutes of arriving he had the servo motor fault code downloaded to his laptop.

The tc motor packed up on my gsi when i had the redtop in there, i just junked the tc far easier and cheaper. plus it's not compatible with the let

TC fault codes ;)

Traction Control Short pins A and J on the diag plug

Traction control fault codes

14 Coolant temperature sensor - voltage low (20XE only)
15 Coolant temperature sensor - voltage high (20XE only)
21 Throttle position sensor - voltage high (20XE only)
22 Throttle position sensor - voltage low (20XE only)
26 Traction control Throttle position sensor - voltage high
27 Traction control Throttle position sensor - voltage low
31 No Engine RPM Signal
37 Stop Lamp Switch ( Pedal Switch )
39 LH Front Speed Sensor
42 RH Front Speed Sensor
44 LH Rear Speed Sensor
46 RH Rear Speed Sensor
55 ECU fault
57 ABS status signal low (ABS light on indicating fault with ABS system, fix this ABS fault first)
58 ABS status signal open circuit
63 Throttle motor (ETC) motor open circuit
64 Throttle motor (ETC) motor short circuit
82 On/Off switch voltage low.

A common problem is the traction control motor plug being damp.

The TC coolant temperature sensor is located in the engine ecu coolant temperature sensor on the 20XE M2.5. If this is found to be faulty is should be replaced with the correct sensor. ie a black one not a blue one.

Fault codes 39,42,44,46,57 Are faults with the ABS system not the traction control system and therefore the ABS light should be on. Fix the ABS fault and the traction control fault code should go away.
In the unlikly event no ABS fault can be found check the following wires that run between the ABS and TC ecu
Blue, Blue/green, Blue/white, Blue/red, Brown/yellow. Listed in order of faultcode numbers.
