Hi my car has broken down at the side of the road.I pop out to the shop in the car came out to find it wouldnt start its a x16xel any ideas please. Its got fuel all dash lights come on turn the key and it trys to start but not enought to turn over (run). Need it for the school run for my 4yr old this afternoon + in the morning.

Thanks in advance

Mark

True it did turn over for a few seconds very low revs then died.

do you have a multimeter ?

try reading the codes and see if anything comes up (theres links on here for topbuzz website to show you how or google topbuzz engine codes)

sounds like electrical gremlins which just cant be diagnosed over the net. sounds like alternator aint charging the battery up enough.

Thats one of the things i havent got mate. Do you.mean the paper clip test.

I agree, try battery and altinator first but if thats is not it, it Could be the ecu,

My astra used to just pack in, one min I'm running along fine the next nothing, lights working fuel ok but the car was dead, after changing loads of bits I finally changed the ecu, I picked one up at a scrappies for £15 changed it and its run sweet since.

Its still the same charged the battery almost all day yesterday connected it up this morning and nothing. Have the mk3s got a fuel cut off switch as i hear the relay clicking but i think theres no fuel getting to the engine. I also changef spark plugs and ht leads. It trying to turn over as i seen the cam belt &alternator belt moving so nothing jamed or seazed from what i can see.

is it actually turning over fine but failing to start (probably crank sensor) or is it struggling to turn over?

i would say the above tbh sounds like the crank sensor to me, check if you have a spark there and if not then thats the likely fault

There is spark just wont start are the fuel relays surposed to click. As for the battery that fine plenty of power in it. Would the crank sensor be anything to do with the over fuelin ive been having lately. Wouldnt a sensor fault put the eml on as its not on.

Had the fuel pumo relay tested today and its workin fine any ideas.

Is there a way of testing this by any chance mate

Do you have a test bulb if you do then take the wiring connector off and put the bulb wires into the connector and see if it lights up when the ignition is on if it does then you have a feed to the pump and if your not gettin fuel to the engine then its the pump but if the light doesnt light up then you have a feed prob

i dont mate sadly (my xmas list is growing now lol) can anything else be used like wire up a led or somthing to see if theres power there i did try an listen to the pump yesterday but heard nothing + with the relay clicking i thought it was the relay at fault but now know its not so the pump is nexts on the list then check the newly replaced fuel filter then fpr.

Get the back seat up with all the doors shut and switch the ignition on and see if you can hear the pump prime itself?

Had op-com on it today and came up with P0230 fuel pump relay low voltage any ideas as i got told the relay is working fine(think they were pulling my leg taking the p**s tho) it is the one by ECU (purple one) on the inside of the drivers foot well
i managed to lend a multi meter any ideas as what to set it to do a test as i haven't used one for years
Thanks
Mark

Turn on the headlights
Get someone to watch them
Turn the engine over

If the headlights dim then your battery is knackered. When the batteries start to die, no amount of charging will revive them.

op-com said the above mate so i dont think it would be the battery at fault fella
