How do i find out my engine code

i drive a 1.4 hi torq mk3, i keep blowing the head gasket, 2nd time so far, not so fun, gotta get the part, my mate can do it for free but he needs to know the engine code, anyone know where bouts i can find it? lol

and also what would of caused the gasket to go? mayb over heat or also clown puttin cold water into the cooling system

cheers man, dont think it matters now, buying a c20xe engine from a cavalier. im new to this site, havent taken pictures of my car yet but will start a diary soon hopefully
