Ok so the smallest amount of bass and my front speakers go ape sh!t and I struggle to hear anything, granted they're only the standard stuff but still. So I need to upgrade them. I'm thinking of getting component speakers 6.5"/17cm with cross overs and tweeters, but which ones? there seem to be too many speakers to choose from which are the right ones for me? I do like to listen to my music loud and clear but I listen to a variety of music.

A few I've looked at so far only have an RMS of around 50watts I'm thinking thats no where near enough to get good sound quality at most volumes.

Also I'm thinking of sound proofing the doors to get some better quality any places I should concentrate on?

ive always used alpines, crystal clear quality, i had type-s ones in the doors of my old astra with mids and tweets they gave off a great sound through my alpine cd-9875r headunit, im selling them if youre interested with the cusom pods to fit behind and astra door card, pm me if youre interested

true but you always want your speakers to handle whatever your headunit can chuck at it.

I used to have a set of JL front co-axials that were 50w rms i ran them from a 200w rms amp and they were fine, it just depends on what brands you buy

lol and you got no distortion with that set up?

None at all mate, when she's back on the road she'll have a set of JL 3 way components which are around 100w rms iirc and they'll be running from the same amp, so again they'll be getting 200w rms a side.

Next time your up this way come and have a listen to Kelly's as her's sounds spot on and the fronts are only Vibe speakers running off an alpine amp

Focal polyglass v-slims and an amp to power them.. u wouldnt need a sub unless ur a total bass junkie. Nice, simple, done (awsome claeity and good bass for the setup. Oh and u HAVE to soundproof ur doors. Use focal plainchant behind them as well. made a big difference!
Run the rears off the head unit.

I'm with aussie womble! got the focal access components in my calibra they are only the base model and for the money i can't believe the quality, so clear and crisp, was so impressed i bought another set for my astra (yet to fit them though)

Believe it or not but the worse thing U can do to speakers is under power them... go for Kenwood or Pioneers custom fits if Ur just running 'em of a deck but to do it right as said Focal or my personal fav Dynaudio (don't look fancy BUT SOUND SPOT ON) or DLS if looking for somert cheaper.... then a big amp
