Project Green Estate

Well iv found some suspension not a great choice for the estate but thinking about getting air for it

You still need new suspension for Air though so your adding expense which is silly IMO. You can get some decent kits for the estate I had one and a lad with a hatch bought it even thought I told him it wouldn't fit

Yer of course but I'd like to have the car on the road soon and give me time to sort out the air and then I'd have a spare kit just in case I find another estate lol

Was this the one listed on Auto Trader a few weeks back with the suspected head gasket failure I think it said in the write up owned by careful lady owner for something like 12 or 14 years? I looked at it when I was on the hunt but it was a bit far away to go for but looked to be a pretty good car other than the issue .. if it is the same one it looks pretty decent, the tinted windows really suit it.

Yes mate this is it
It is really a honest car gotta do the rear arches but gonna weld in convertible arches needs a really good clean inside will probably take seats out and do a full clean

Thought it was the same one, It'll be a good motor once you've got on top of it from what I remember it saying in the listing apart from the head gasket and arches needing attention it's supposed to be in pretty good nick.

I'd love an estate next. They're getting hard to find in clean condition though :(

Yours looks good, I'd get the head off it and see what's going on. I'd imagine it's the usual waterway corrosion; hopefully it's not too bad, you can skim the head and get it back on the road!

Speaking of Waterway corrosion and I hope you don't mind me asking on this thread my water/coolant is rust coloured I'm planning on draining and flushing the system tomorrow but on checking the manual it states 6.8 litres for the 17DT my car being the 1.7 Isuzu Turbo diesel, this seems a bit excessive to me my Ford focus only took 3 litres as I remember then you topped it off with deionized water am I reading this right is it actually that amount of coolant "then" add water or is it meaning 6.8 litres all in?

Yeah deffo hard to find nice estates and gonna have a look soon at what's going on Cuz there's more white stuff in the engine then at a sex party

Yer but I'm hopeful that it's looks worse than it is Cuz I no these engines condensate wen they do lots of short journeys witch this car did so hoping it's abit of that plus gasket gone and just looks really bad lol

Biggest part of the job will be getting all the gunk out... I did a K-Series a while back (no further explanation necessary..) and the Irish coffee took so long to clean out!

Cuda, coolant is just a general term for the antifreeze and water mixed together. I usually go 50% antifreeze to water, so if the book says it takes 6.8L, dump in 3.5ish litres of neat antifreeze followed by clean water until it's happy :thumb:

Yep that's what I thought just wanted to make sure, its just how its worded in the manual, thanks ;)

How you going to go about cleaning it all out, using flushing oil can be problematic in itself from what I've been hearing just lately so to my thinking it would be a case of drain the sump remove it clean it all out including the strainer refit put some fresh in it run it for a while then drain again and refill and if necessary repeat ... yes ... no

Yup, we dropped the sump, gave it a really good clean and let the open engine drip into a pan for days whilst the head was away being skimmed. Then, cheap oil and change it after a few thousand miles. Flush the cooling system in a similar way but use plain water first. I like to crumble in a dishwasher tablet- it works as well as any flushing agent!

Well this is going to be the project Estate just sorting out some bits and trying to find other bits but should be a nice fun car wen finished
